#COVID19AB Vaccine Update: Alberta is participating in the national bulk procurement for COVID-19 vaccines. We expect Alberta will receive about 465,000 doses from Pfizer and about 221,000 doses from Moderna, with the first shipments arriving in early 2021. We will be working with Alberta Health Services and federal public health officials to prioritize distribution for Alberta’s most vulnerable, health care workers and residents in continuing care. ... More details will be shared as they are available. #abhealth #ableg

A runny nose and sore throat have been removed from children’s list of mandatory isolation symptoms. Last week, less than 1% of children with only a sore throat and less than .5% with only a runny nose tested positive for #COVID19AB. These changes align with BC, Ontario, and Quebec. After they updated their lists, they did not see a corresponding increase of COVID-19 transmission in schools.... Remember: this change is only for those with no known exposure. Today I introduced legislation that will strengthen supports and protections for patients. Bill 46 modernizes legislation to make our health care system more responsive and effective for Albertans. https://www.alberta.ca/release.cfm We’re putting patients and the public interest first. Bill 46 separates regulatory colleges from professional associations. It also gives Health Care Aides a stronger voice in the system while ensuring they are held to the same standards as other... health professionals. This legislation will also help Albertans access primary care by creating a centralized online registry so Albertans can search in one place for a health provider, rather than multiple websites. Bill 46 allows for better sharing of electronic health record information between Alberta Health, Alberta Health Services and other authorized health organizations. It also improves information sharing in border communities like Lloydminster. Protecting the privacy of health information will always be a top priority - that will not change. Amendments include tougher penalties for inappropriate access to a person’s health information in addition to the existing breach reporting requirements. As we move forward with modernizing Alberta’s health system, legislation must stay current and support Albertans' priorities. Finding efficiencies, enhancing patient safety and improving patient outcomes remain our top priorities.

Today is World Pancreatic Cancer Day. Pancreatic cancer is one of the most deadly cancers and is often diagnosed at a late stage. #pancreaticcancer #wpcd #abhealth https://www.alberta.ca/release.cfm... My thoughts and prayers are with every Albertan and their loved ones who have received this devastating diagnosis. Patients and families have little time to accept the news and respond to the prognosis before their lives are forever changed. Alberta’s government is committed to improving access to high-quality palliative care and cancer support services. Organizations like Craig’s Cause Pancreatic Cancer Society can help improve the quality of life for pancreatic cancer patients and their families through practical, financial, and emotional supports. Find out more about Craig's Cause here: https://www.craigscause.ca/

I’m pleased to see construction begin on St. Anne’s Haven, a new continuing care centre in Lethbridge. It is expected to open in spring 2022 and will be home to 102 people needing supportive living and dementia care. The Alberta government is investing $10 million to support this Covenant Care project. Residents of St. Anne’s Haven can look forward to expert, quality care and services surrounded by loved ones in the same community where they built their lives, raised their f...amilies and made friends. Today is World Diabetes Day. Let’s support a global effort to increase awareness of diabetes and the enormity of this chronic health condition. And, let’s work together to reduce the number of people affected by this disease. #abhealth More than 350,000 Albertans live with type 1 or type 2 diabetes, and more may have undiagnosed diabetes or prediabetes. #WorldDiabetesDay draws attention to the serious effects of diabetes and the complications caused by the disease.... I want to thank Diabetes Canada for supporting Albertans who live with diabetes and encouraging others to become familiar with the warning signs and steps to prevent this serious medical condition. https://www.alberta.ca/release.cfm

The NDP are calling for more of what we’re already doing. Perhaps instead of launching campaign-style attack ads on behalf of union bosses, the NDP could recognize the incredible work of Alberta’s contact tracers. We've been the clear leader in contact tracing from the start of the pandemic. Pre-covid, Alberta Health Services had approximately 50 tracers we now have over 800. ... AHS is hiring another 380, bringing Alberta's total to over 1,100. Alberta’s tracing teams are working day and night. AHS continues to hire and train more staff to help meet demand. AHS also has the ability to deploy additional tracers when there are large increases in positive cases and outbreaks across the province Contract tracers are the unsung heroes of this pandemic. We all have a responsibility to help limit the spread of #COVID19AB. https://edmonton.ctvnews.ca/alberta-opposition-calls-for-mo

Let’s face it, men’s health issues can be difficult to talk about. This #Movember, I challenge you to bring on the goatees, handlebars, Santa beards and sideburns. Let’s start the conversation about prostate and testicular cancer testing and getting support for mental health. Approximately 150 men in Alberta are diagnosed with testicular cancer each year, and it is the most common type of cancer in men aged 15 to 29 years. ... Thankfully, if caught early, it's highly curable. https://www.alberta.ca/release.cfm During the pandemic, many men face unexpected challenges, including financial pressures and unemployment. Please remember that confidential addiction and mental health supports are available 24/7 across Alberta. Find out more here: https://albertahealthservices.ca/amh/amh.aspx
