Must read for those with dogs and children. I tell my pawrents all the time, you want a personal space bubble and so does your dog. You would never let your child run right into a strange dogs face, why would you allow it with your own? Please share this important message.

Another Leave-it progress video from a Pawrent! Onyx and Loki have only had one lesson, but their pawrents have truly been putting in the work since our last session 2 weeks ago! Let's give them a like or a heart and give them the props they deserve for all their hard work and determination with their homework!

This is a good read and much of what I tell my pawrents their first lesson. Things will get better at the dogs pace. Baby steps can mean progress that makes the dog go from unstable to nearly bomb proof. It's always on their terms though not ours. Understanding them, the things they fear, need, and love. Even keeping note on how they learn, is all very important, because they're the first major steps in building a better relationship ... https://spiritdogtraining.com/7-deadly-sins-in-training-re/

MEET JACKSON. Jackson is around 5 years old, and is an owner surrender. He is starting a rigorous training program to make him more socialized with the world and will not be available for a new home right away. As he has some behavioral issues I want to correct to make him more adoptable! However we are taking applications now, as we want the best possible home for this man. Preferably with acreage as this guy has been known to jump 8 foot fences and is a HuskyxCollie. Inquiries can be left below or inboxed. Adoption fee is $200 as he will be put through hours of training before he is rehomed, and come with 3 free integration lessons for his new home! Thank you.

Convenience is a hard thing to find in today's world, so why not cut one corner and have your dog trainer come to you? Tyra's Canine Companions is a training service that travels directly to you! We offer a rate of $40 for the hour, with free travel to South Edmonton, the City of Leduc, Millet and Wetaskiwin County! With very affordable travel fee to outside counties and rural areas!... As a former group class and facility trainer, I've learned from experience moving lessons to different environments, and training commands and mannerisms in those environments consistently. Makes for a balanced dog everywhere you go, not just at home, all the time, everytime. Group classes are wonderful for socialization and distraction training. However often times individually, each pawrent and their dog learn very differently from the rest of the class. Sometimes it's easy to feel lost in the group, or that you haven't had enough time one on one with your trainer. This allows for myself to focus on not just the social dogs, but the dogs with major fear reactivity issues that most would consider 'aggressive' behavior. As well as socialize them to the world at their pace and build your relationship with them. So when I leave, your dog still looks to you for leadership in all scenarios, and eventually learns to look to you on how to respond rather then react out of that fear. Majority of my pawrents are behavioral calls, I think puppies only make up about 5 to 10 percent of the dogs I teach. A good portion of these dogs are last chance calls. All of those pawrents know how to teach their dogs the basics, sit, stay, etc. What are they missing though you may ask, to have such issues behaviorally with their dogs? A lack in relationship. I do not call my self a dog trainer, I consider myself a Bond Builder.

I talk plenty about this pet store in many of my lessons with my Pawrents and often times forget to share the link! For those I've spoken so highly of this store to, here is the name! For those whom I've never mentioned it to, you definitely want to spend the gas mileage to visit this Edmonton, because what you spend in gas you'll save on your bill for pet supplies! Prices are realistic and really great natural and raw options which we all know I'm a huge fan of! (Those of you who have had nutrition talks will know how much of a fan.)

Loose Leash Walking: The art of enjoying your walk with your dog, rather then them walk you and treat you as something to tow around on the end of their leash! With so much information on how to get your dog to stop pulling out there, it's hard to know what's the right way.... So many of my pawrents tell me about methods they've been taught or seen and tried. Including walking the opposite direction when they pull, treating them to walk beside them, wrenching on the leash as soon as the pull you, and even alternate collars like prong or choke collars. Fact is if you start a pulling match with your dog they are always going to win. Unless they're under 10 pounds . Treating them to walk next to your side works occasionally until a smell comes or something walks by. Those collars and anti pulling harnesses you spent so much money on only work when they're on or until the dog develops a muscle tolerance to them! So what works? Building a solid bond and teaching the dog to include you in the walk rather then forget your behind them! Bowser has had 1 walking lesson, and with only a few days into his homework is showing a major improvements already! Showing off his Mom's hard work with their homework and that Bulldogs may be stubborn but they are very intelligent.

I always say I'm not teaching you to teach your dog what they already know. Most people can get their dog to sit, I build relationships and bonds. I fix you as the pawrent and create stability with that bond.

I feel incredibly sad and defeated today. I (Chantelle) and the team at Justice for Bullies work so hard to put professional, reliable, science-based informatio...n into the world. We are active in our communities and on social media. Until recently, we have not done a lot of media interviews because of poor representation in the past. With the recent talk of BSL in Calgary, I decided to overcome my reservations and speak to Global Calgary this weekend. I asked about the angle of the story and whether they were speaking to any pro-BSL advocates. I was assured that it was a fact-based article about the Calgary questionnaire and that the Calgary Humane Society would also be commenting. I took time off of work to speak to reporters and be available for in-person filming. Everyone I spoke to was lovely and I was starting to feel some optimism about being heard. Imagine my horror when my first taste of the coverage was the headline Woman attacked by pit bull urges Calgarians to fill out city’s pet survey accompanied with a photo of MY DOG. I’m livid that a casual scroller would see attacked by pit bull next to my beautiful dog’s face. The article opens with several paragraphs of gory details about a woman’s traumatic dog bite injury, attributing the bite to a pit bull. What follows are some quotes from myself and the Calgary Humane Society (which were good quotes!), interspersed with two photos of this woman’s horrible injury, live links to other pit bull attack stories, and a closing quote about the victim’s trauma. Let me be clear: we of course sympathise with the victim she did not deserve that attack and she has the right to her opinion. However, we are incredibly disappointed by Global’s journalistic choices. We and the Calgary Humane Society provided facts about dog aggression and dog legislation, because laws should be based on information. Despite assuring me that this was going to be a balanced piece, Global chose to go in another direction. For any other topic, does a media outlet show gory photos to show both sides of the story? If we were talking about assault or seatbelt laws, would we see multiple close-up photos of injuries, blood, and stitches? Why is this acceptable journalism when we are talking about a bylaw issue? It is incredibly disappointing that after all these years, sensationalism and clickbait still wins the day. I wish I could turn back time and reclaim the hours back that I spent on this interview. Your audience deserves better, Global. I deserve better. And Magoo (a certified Canine Good Neighbour) certainly deserves better. UPDATE: At our request, Magoo's photo has now been replaced as the thumbnail for the online article but still appears on the thumbnail for the video with the headline.

If you even offer your own hand to your own pet, in the comfort of your home, most dogs will turn away. We as humans love to give and please. We give them love and affection, and are always in their faces. Affection we never stop to think that maybe they don't actually want. This causes many behavior problems just based on them thinking that getting in everyones space is how the world works. Because we've raised them in an environment where those are the rules. We create dogs that are addicted to attention and insecure when others take that attention from them. Wonder why they lunge on leash. We do it to them. Stick your hand in my face, see what happens. I guarentee the reaction won't be very pleasant, how can we expect the same?

Little Steps create doors for big success. Patience is truly the largest part of training your dog. Brutus went from being terrified of his kennel, to laying in it while his parent were watching TV, with one lesson, and a single short homework practice! A total of a little over an hour! Was it sooner then expected? Yes. But it's not having expectations of how fast the dog will improve that let's them really surprise us!... This occurred with some simple door open positive reinforcement! That's really all it takes. I'm blown away by this boy! Let's give him and his Mom some props for their hard work!

The Trend lately has been posting a then and now from 2015 to 2020! With that being said I wanted to post some old photos of what I was doing with dogs, 5 years ago! Back then in British Columbia, I started in a company I had no idea would start 3.5 years of training. With the best trainer I have ever had the pleasure of knowing and training with. ... While I do puppy training now in Alberta with my own buisness, the largest percent of my pawrents and dogs have behavioral based training needs. From training puppies to behavior modification and saving lives! I'll take this path over and over. Saving dogs from rehomings or shelters, seeing their pawrents regain faith in their pups is what makes it all worth it! -Side note for those from this time, if you do not see your pup, I did have a phone stolen in between these and me leaving BC.

Miss Nala is terrified of everything. Even her Maws fork hitting her plate during dinner. For a portion of my pups, 'aggressive' fear response behaviors are a major reason for why I am called. However there is a fraction of them, who just want to flee the situation and curl up in the tightest smallest spot. Becoming a wallflower. That is Nala. Yesterday we spent a good portion of our walk going to different social situations and even sitting infront of a buggy coral at ...No frills. Why, you may ask? Easy, realizing the scary cart noises and flow of people aren't there for her, but just go about their buisness, eventually doesn't bother her. Rather then overstimulates. Observing from a distance she feels safe allows her to slowly close the gap between those people and those noises. One step and one day at a time.

Every year there seems to be a theme to the more extreme cases that I get called in to help with. Last year it was child bite instances, this year its cat deaths. Dogs need to be taught how to handle themselves around all walks of life. Exposure to these walks of life and solid obedience is the only way to do that. ... Meet Athena and her three new kitten siblings, she has been posted about previously. But I haven't posted specifically, about why Athena is training with me. Athena has killed a couple of cats, she was, up until a few weeks ago not even able to be around them without throwing a fit. Why train a cat 'killer' you may ask? Simple. Athena never went into any of those deaths with the intention to harm them. It was always a play mentality and she got much too ruff resulting in the tragedy. Infact acting distraught when the animal was no longer moving. By controlling her energy level with basic commands, and teaching her over a few weeks; from the cats being in a kennel and her on leash. To now being trusted in a room with the three of them off leash. Building up that compliance, and the bond between her and her pawrent. Athena will continue to build this bond and trust around these kittens and other animals in the future. But with behavior modification, went from being completely an untrustworthy canine to being a well behaved family member.

TRAINING SHOULD NOT BREAK THE BANK For a one on one Private Session we charge $40 for the hour and travel to you!... Both this and last year I have recieved numerous comments about how 'cheap' my training is. I use the word affordable, because it's the same quality many of the trainers charging an arm and a leg, are offering, but at a better cost for your budget. I have also received too many 'last hope' calls from clients, those that are at the end of their ropes or have had a bite incident with a dog. I offer it at an affordable rate so dogs do not end up euthanized or in shelters due to lack of affordable training to lower income households. I'm here to save lives not make money

ENTERTAINMENT STIMULATION ENERGY BURNING These things are all required for a balanced dog. They truly will find other ways to burn that energy or to entertain themselves. Dogs need to be Dogs.... BORDEM=TROUBLE What does your toddler do when left alone? These guys need routine, boundaries and jobs. It's amazing what a few small tricks can lead to, what kind of small jobs it can turn into for your pup. Dogtrickheaven_bc,langley
