OBIA is pleased to announce the launch of the new Brain Injury Impact Study. OBIA has been conducting research for more than 25 years. Many things have changed ...over the years, including the incidence and impact of concussion being brought to the forefront. For our research to remain relevant, we are transitioning from the current research questionnaire to the Brain Injury Impact Study. There are two versions of the new study, one for Individuals Living with Brain Injury/Concussion and the other, for Family Members and Caregivers. By completing the annual study, participants will receive a FREE membership to OBIA and a participating Community Association. Join OBIA's reseach study and MAKE A DIFFERENCE! The Ontario government has announced that, effective August 1, legislation will permit commissioners for taking affidavits to provide services remotely. Please ...stay tuned for more information from the Law Society about the new remote commissioning regulation, as well as recommended best practices for mitigating the risks involved. Effective August 1, the Ontario government is making amendments to the Notaries Act to allow paralegals to be appointed as notaries public, on the same basis as lawyers. The Law Society has consistently advocated for notary public eligibility for paralegals, on the basis that paralegals have the training and experience to provide this service. The Law Society supports these amendments which will increase access to notary services for Ontarians. As a result of these amendments, effective August 1 paralegals licensed by the Law Society will now be eligible to provide notary public services across Ontario. All licensees must submit an application form and receive a Certificate of Appointment from the Ontario Ministry of Government and Consumer Services before they can begin providing notary public services.
