UBC Arts Co-op Program 19.11.2020

As Youth Services Librarian at the North Memorial Branch of the Halifax Public Libraries (HPL), Stephanie organized youth programs, led a Summer Reading Club for kids, and provided customers with technological assistance. Having witnessed first-hand the immense impact that a library can have on its local community and vice versa, Stephanie believes co-op solidified her interest in and need to continue working with communities in the future. Her remarkable efforts both in co-o...p and in community involvement earned her the 2018/19 Honourable Mention iSchool MLIS Co-op Student of the Year. This week, we want to highlight a special tip from UBC's Thrive Initiative: Did you know that social connection helps with your mental health? Remember that physical distancing doesn't need to mean social isolation. There are still ways for you to connect with your family, friends and community while protecting yourself and others. You can call a friend, organize an online game night, or even just let someone know you're thinking of them. <3 . .... . #UBCThrive #selfcare #mentalhealthmatters #socialdistancing #SocialConnection See more

On Saturday, our new cohort of 246 undergraduate Arts Co-op students kicked off their co-op journey at the first of 2 virtual conferences! The first pic features some of our alum and senior student speakers, and the second pic features our Undergraduate Student Engagement Team (USET!) In addition to providing effective job application skills, we had a Q&A with an employer panel, group application reviews, and networking sessions. Special thanks to our 4 employer panelists ...and 45 alums and senior students for taking part! During these times like no other, it's just as important as ever to build career readiness and resiliency, and we're excited to work with our new students to do just that. Psst: Keen to join Arts Co-op? Our annual intake happens each September and we typically admit ~250 undergrad students. Check back in September 2021 for details! . . . #educated2employed #hireeducation #professionaldevelopment #newstudents #ubcartscoop #ubc

We're so happy to hear that Arts Co-op helped UBC Psychology alumna Lexie Bergen find a career she really enjoys. "Going into te job market is such a black hole and co-op really taught me where to start. But more than that, I was able to see what sort of careers were really out there for people with BAs in Psychology - and there really were so much more than I could have ever thought," she reflects. #educated2employed UBC Department of Psychology... https://psych.ubc.ca//qa-with-lexie-bergen-ubc-psychology/
