A particle can be thought of as many things: a point-like object, an excitation of a field, a speck of pure math that has cut into reality. Check out this article by Quanta Magazine as it interviews many physicists, including theoretical physicist at UBC, Mark van Raamsdonk, on just exactly WHAT is a particle.
Thanks for sharing this with us @UBC Language Sciences ! For those who have seen the movie "Arrival" this is a cool event to learn how an alien language was developed for the film!
