INTRODUCING ELISION, a former member of UBC Slam Poetry for 5 years and the President from 2018-2019. They are an incredible poet and musician who will be perfo...rming at our Slamily Reunion Showcase this Friday! Part explorer, part puzzlemaster, Elisha (Elision) will take you on an intimate examination of life's feedback loops. Combining incisive popular culture references with discrete imagery, they seek to decipher abstract concepts and reconstruct them into new conceptual blends.
INTRODUCING MIMI SILVER, a former UBC Slam Poetry Executive from 2017-2019 and a talented poet who will be performing at our Slamily Reunion Showcase coming up ...in just one week! In 2015, Mimi Silver began her poetry career, starting in spoken word. She has since competed in both Individual and Team Canadian National Slam Poetry Championships. Mimi has been published in The Garden Statuary, was a Cathexis Northwest Press featured poet for November 2020, and has performed work at events for the Museum of Anthropology, the City of Vancouver and the University of British Columbia’s International Women’s Day Celebrations. She was recently featured in a CBC article, Six GTA poets share how they’re coping with physical distancing. She has an MA in Creative Writing from the University College Dublin.
INTRODUCING ANGELICA, the 2019-2020 President of UBC Slam Poetry and the first of seven incredible poets who will be performing at our Slamily Reunion Showcase ...on January 29th! Angelica (they/them) is a queer non-binary Russian-Jewish poet whose poetry has took them to Switzerland, the United Nations, TedXBC and opening for Shane Koyzcan even! UBC SLAM was an amazing place for Angelica to cocoon as a poet and grow in the wealth of all the love! They are honoured to come back and perform and do a workshop! Angelica has been leading workshops in schools, libraries, with youth groups, in community centres, and dozens of festivals across North America on how to claim your power through poetry. Much of their activism, has been devoted to queer and trans celebration and dreaming beyond patterns of trauma. An intuitive empath, their practice is informed by nurturance culture building and poetry as a political, personal, and spiritual power.
