Diwali is celebrated during the homecoming of Lord Rama after fourteen years of exile. Diwali is a festival celebrated over 5 days and is a lot more than just firecrackers and sweets. Day 1- Dhanteras- Worshipping Goddess Lakshmi and purchasing gold. Day 2- Naraka Chaturdashi(Choti Diwali)- People apply aromatic oils on themselves before showering to get rid of impurities and sins.... Day 3- Lakshmi Puja- Sacred ceremonies are conducted at homes and gifts are exchanged. Day 4- Govardhan Puja- Lord Krishna defeated Indra by lifting the Govardhan mountain on his little finger. This day also marks the beginning of the new year for some! Day 5- Bhai Dooj- Sisters pray for their brothers’ long and happy life and brothers give them gifts.
