Ucluelet Campground 19.01.2021

Since we implemented the Bare Campsite Program at #Ucluelet Campground with the support of #WildSafeBC’s Coordinators, we have seen minimal wildlife encounters on our premises, we have noticed that our campers are feeling safer and more cautious, resulting in a cleaner safer environment for everyone to enjoy. While it takes a bit more effort on our part, we are definitely seeing the benefits, clear signage, education and regular site checks have been very effective. During our 2020 season we had no recorded wildlife encounters."

Wildlife Activity Update: Dec-3rd, 2020 Bears: The WARP shows no reports to the RAPP Line since the last update. There has though been activity.... There are confirmed reports of a very determined bear that managed to break into a latched commercial bin to access garbage. The bin has since been secured so that the bear can not repeat it's access. This bear is likely checking out other commercial bins. Just received a report of another bin accessed in the Forbes Road area. Unlatched bins will provide an easier garbage reward. Please ensure bins are always latched. There have actually been reports of 2 different bears in Ucluelet at present. Bears out at this time of year will be driven by the biological imperative to eat the maximum number of calories every day to prepare for denning. On Dec. 1st there was a sighting of bear during the day in the Davidson Plaza area. Wolf: This morning around 09:00 am there was a siting of wolf around Bay Street. Please stay vigilant in your efforts to "Keep Wildlife Wild and Our Communities Safe" secure all the your wildlife attractants and to keep your pets and livestock safe. Report any bear, wolf or cougar activity in the community to the 24/7 RAPP Line at 1(877)952-7277.
