BREAKING: MANDATORY MASKS IN RETAIL STORES. After several months of UFCW 1518 pushing government & retail employers to mandate masks in retail locations, today Dr. Bonnie Henry announced face masks will now be mandatory for everyone entering a grocery store. This is a significant announcement that will help keep all hard-working frontline workers safe. We did this together! #WeFight4Fairness

"Pretty much most of the country, most of the population is covered by some sort of [mask] mandate. We’re the outliers, we’re not the leaders. (...) It’s supported by the public, supported by the science, supported by businesses. It's time for clarity and action. We need Dr. Bonnie Henry & the provincial government to implement a mandatory masks policy in public spaces, so we can keep everyone safe.

25 members levelled up their skills at today's Shop Steward Fundamentals training. These students are ready to head back to their workplaces and stand up for their co-workers. Congratulations on finishing the course, stewards!

BREAKING: The Retail Council of Canada has joined the call to make masks mandatory in indoor public spaces in BC. Their message is clear: mandatory mask-wearing would improve safety for retail workers and store owners, as well as customers. You can continue to do your part while we wait for government or businesses to take action: wear a mask when out in public. It’s a common-sense way to protect workers AND shoppers.

What a day! Today we held our first full-day Education Month course. Our Political Campaigning Workshop had 30 member activists participating. With an election coming up on October 24, it is more important than ever to have members engaged in political action. We are very pleased to see such a great turnout today! We would also like to take a moment to thank some of the remarkable guest speakers that joined our course today and shared their knowledge with our members: Sussanne Skidmore from the BC Federation of Labour, Mark Hennessy from UFCW Canada, and Jason Hjalmarson from Qmunity.
