November 11 is Remembrance Day. Over a century ago, on November 11, 1918 at 11 a.m., the First World War came to a conclusion with the signing of an armistice agreement that brought an end to the hostilities. Each year since, at the 11th hour of the 11th day of the 11th month, people from across Canada stand together as a community to honour and remember the more than 118,000 Canadian military personnel who have died in action since 1914 making the supreme sacrifice in the ...line of duty. We also pay respect to the more than two million Canadians who have served and continue to serve in the military to protect our rights and freedoms. This November 11, on Remembrance Day, let us honour and remember those in military service by acknowledging their courage and sacrifice, and by cherishing the peace we live in.

Congratulations and a big thank-you to the members at Superstore #1523 in Chilliwack, who raised over $12,000 in their store for the Leukemia & Lymphoma Society of Canada and their efforts to find a cure for blood diseases. "The members in this store have been really active when it comes to raising funds for leukemia research," said Dan Goodman, Secretary-Treasurer of UFCW Local 247, "and we wanted to acknowledge that they have been 'giving back' to the community for a long... time." Goodman and Union Rep Heather McLaverty recently visited the store to pass out pins to members in recognition of their stellar fundraising work. Pictured L-R are: Heather McLaverty, member Barbara Chandrock, and Dan Goodman. The UFCW Children's Christmas party has been cancelled for 2020. The annual Children's Christmas party for UFCW Local 247 and Local 1518 members and their families will not take place this year due to the Covid-19 crisis. Held each year in early December at Burnaby’s Heritage Village Museum, the UFCW Children's Christmas party has been hugely popular, with upwards of 2,000 UFCW members and their family members taking part.... In a normal year, invitations for the Children's Christmas party would be sent in the mail shortly. No invitations will be sent this year, but we look forward to resuming the UFCW Christmas party in 2021, should public health authorities deem such events safe.
