This is incredibly disappointing. There is no room for racism or racist analysis in our response to the global pandemic. All too often, arguments about "community transmission" are exclusively leveled at ethno-cultural communities. And they deflect from the reality that COVID needs to be understood at an occupational disease. Blaming the workers for outbreaks like the one at Olymel is wrong and only ensures that we will continue to overlook the root causes of these situation...s. Until we adequately and effectively address workplace safety in this pandemic and ensure that employers are doing the right thing, we will not get the virus under control. #ufcw #canlab #olymel

This is 401's Riverview bargaining team wearing #PinkShirtDay masks. A problem issue for this group is the Employer's refusal to put Domestic Violence language in the CBA, even after rates have risen 20-30% over the pandemic. Stand together and speak out against bullying.

Hesse criticized the CWB as faulted in determining what Albertans would be eligible. The UFCW president said all essential and critical workers, whether or not they make $25 an hour or have worked 300 hours between Oct. 12, 2020 and Jan. 31, 2021, faced the same threat from the novel coronavirus. And Hesse wondered whether employees on worker’s compensation, disability insurance or maternity leave would be eligible. These calculations with respect to who gets them and wh...o doesn’t might leave those people out, Hesse said. And that’s just plain discriminatory. https://globalnews.ca//eligibility-apply-issues-alberta-c/ #ufcw #canlab
