Hello, We have a very exciting event to announce! The Faculty of Science, Dean’s Seminar Series is pleased to present the Honourable Rosa Galvez, Canadian Senator.... Rosa Galvez, originally from Peru, is one of Canada’s leading experts in pollution control and its effect on human health. She developed an interest in finding solutions to pollution and studied civil engineering. Her path led her to Canada where she completed her PhD and became a professor at Université Laval in Quebec. Passionate about the diffusion of knowledge and the inclusion of science in decision-making, she decided to bring her wealth of knowledge to the Senate of Canada where she now has a direct impact on legislation. Senator Galvez focuses much of her parliamentary work on issues such as climate change, social inequalities, sustainable finance and economy, and environmental legislation. Since her appointment to the Senate in 2016, she hopes to act as a bridge between science and decision-making. Pre-recorded presentation: https://youtu.be/E9iOsrQZqXI AND then join us for the LIVE Question and Answer period with Her Honour. WHEN: Thursday, NOV 12, 2020 TIME: 10 11:00 AM PST WHERE: ZOOM *Please register with [email protected] and the link will be provided. It is extremely important the science be involved in decisions made by parliament A list of questions will be made in advance. If you would like to submit a question, please send it to [email protected] before November 12. Please note, you’ll still have an opportunity to ask questions in person on the day of the event even if you don’t submit them in advance. Everyone is welcome to attend! Please take advantage of this amazing opportunity to hear from Rosa Galvez.
Big news for the global chemistry and biology community today! The Nobel Prize in Chemistry for 2020 was awarded to Jennifer A. Doudna and Emmanuelle Charpentier for their work with the gene-editing method Crispr-Cas9. They are only the sixth and seventh female scientists to be awarded a Nobel a prize in chemistry. https://www.google.ca//nobel-prize-chemistry-crispr.amp.ht

Hello! My name is Kabeer Poonia and I’m a fourth year Bachelors of Science student with a major in biology and minor in chemistry. I am very excited to be joining BCSA as the VP of Finance. Although this year will be fairly different for the organization due to classes being online I’m excited to be able to help new and returning student throughout these next few semesters. When I’m not at school or volunteering I love being outside and playing sports if I can find the time.
