Hi Folks, As many of you know, the Campus Collective Centre is an advocate for all issues that impact our community and members of our community. One pressing issues is the controversy surrounding the plans for open-pit mining on the Albertan eastern slopes. This decision has bee consistently downplayed and subject to misinformation by officials that pushed the decisions through without proper consultation from impacted communities and stakeholders. All of us living in Southe...rn Alberta stand to be impacted by the opening of the eastern slopes to pit mining. This decision directly threatens the Old Man River watershed, which is the source of our drinking water in Lethbridge, with selenium and arsenic contamination. It also places vital habitat for designated at-risk species and the iconic landscape of the Albertan Rockies at risk of destruction for coal extraction. Below are two petitions that are circulating in opposition to these mining projects. If you are able, we ask that all our supporters and community members take the time to read and sign these petitions in defense of our headwaters and wild places. Solidarity is essential in the opposition of these policies that prioritize profit over wild places and clean water. Thank you for your support on this issue! OUTreach's February trans support group has been rescheduled and will be held on Wednesday, February 24th, from 6-8pm. https://zoom.us/j/95270237494 This group is open to all transgender, gender non-conforming, and gender questioning individuals who are 18+. They do not require cameras to be on, and welcome folks who would like to listen and participate in the conversation using only their microphone.... This is a great opportunity to connect with other members of the community in a safe, digital space.
