UltraBeef Ultrasound Services 23.09.2020

With the arrival of 2018, Ultrabeef Ultrasound Services is booking for the upcoming scanning season. If you are curious about the utilization of carcass ultrasound measurements and the benefits they may provide, I would be happy to discuss it with you. Images for backfat, ribeye area, percent intramuscular fat and rump fat are collected, interpreted by a third party (CUP Lab) and sent to respective breed association for incorporation into EPD calculations, while also being cr...itical to building effective genomic tests. Actual and adjusted measurements, with corresponding ratios, are also returned to the breeder. Carcass traits have high heritability relative to most traits, meaning rapid and predictable genetic advancement can be made. Long term genetic improvement is also the primary intent for this tool, rather than a short-term marketing strategy. Currently, I assist clients in Manitoba, Saskatchewan, Alberta and British Columbia. Prices vary on location and number of head. Please call/text 306-903-7289 with any questions you may have. Thanks. Yesterday was another beautiful day for carcass ultrasound, here at Big Gully Farm! It has been an excellent couple of weeks for ultrasounding around parts of Saskatchewan and Manitoba. I've been fortunate to see some strong cattle, both bulls and females, and to have great visits along the way. Looking forward to the weeks ahead!

This is a beautiful week to finish off another great spring ultrasound season! January, February & March took me to several areas of Manitoba, Saskatchewan & Alberta. Both yearling bulls and replacement females in the Angus, Hereford, Limousin, Shorthorn and Simmental breeds were scanned. This week I will be making a few stops throughout Saskatchewan, and look forward to visiting with those folks as I have with the others this year! It's very rewarding to work with so man...y different breeders, to learn about the goals within their operations and how they are working to advance their herds and breed. I certainly value my customers that utilize ultrasound as a tool for genetic advancement and improvement in end product merit-rather than as simply a marketing strategy. Breeders whose scan results are submitted to their respective breed association are helping the accuracy of genetic predictions for themselves and their breed. Ultrasound is a valuable tool to help breed cattle whose progeny will offer a superior eating experience and consequently bolster beef demand relative to other protein sources. Thank you for an excellent season once again!! (and thank you to Mother Nature for cooperating this year to make things much easier for everyone!) See more

Have made a couple of trips to new/repeat ultrasound customers to collect data for their early bull sales. Will continue to travel throughout February, March and April for ultrasound sessions. If you have ever considered or have questions about possibly assessing carcass merit, via ultrasound, on bulls or replacement females-please feel free to contact me. Regularly travelling through Alberta, Saskatchewan and Manitoba and happy to accommodate herds of any size.

I am very pleased to say that Denise Lafrentz from Wheatland Cattle Co. will be my mentor in the Cattlemen's Young Leaders program for the 2014-2015 year! I am very excited to be learning from her and working with the other 15 CYL's as well.

Very much enjoyed our trip last weekend to the Elk Point 4-H show, and Josephburg Country Classic! Also, thank you to the lovely Laura Bodell of Bella Spur Innovative Media Inc. and Florence Bodell for the excellent visit and dining experience! We also had a chance to escape to West Ed as well. Looking forward to a couple more 4-H shows in the coming weeks!

Good morning everyone and great to see the beautiful weather has finally arrived for May! April marked one of the busiest ultrasound months to date for Ultrabeef. Ultrabeef Ultrasound Services enjoyed visits throughout Saskatchewan to Prince Albert, Mistatim, Maidstone, Rosthern, Imperial, Langenburg, Edam, and Macklin. I am thrilled that half of these visits included breeders who are new to the utilization of carcass ultrasound and with whom I am excited to work with in the future! Will have a couple more sessions for May and then focus on breeding season and turning cows out to pasture at the farm. Thanks to everyone for their continued support this winter/spring and all the best with your upcoming plans!

It has been enjoyable to travel to several farms since the end of January to complete ultrasounding primarily for those scanning sale bulls and females. We have been to Elgin, Medora, Roblin, Oak Lake, Brandon, and Minto, Manitoba as well as Weyburn, Wawota, and Carievale, Saskatchewan to this point! Looking forward to a busy 5 weeks ahead and travelling to several more locations in Manitoba, Saskatchewan and Alberta to work with more producers!

We are currently in the midst of the busy spring ultrasound rush! The season began at the end of January. February proved to be a challenge with the extreme cold temperatures, but managed to find a few days for some ultrasounding and backed as much up into March in hopes to experience better weather. Thankfully that has been the case. The next 4-6 weeks look to be hectic, with many new clients being added this year. Best of luck with the rest of spring calving and bull sales!

Arrived home from an excellent Mary Kay Leadership Conference in New Orleans, followed by another memorable trip to the National Western Stock Show in Denver on January 18th! Completed the first ultrasound session of 2014 on January 20th in Elgin, Manitoba at Perkin Land & Cattle. A great start to the winter and spring scanning season, and always enjoy visits with the Perkin family! Currently, I am working at coordinating and booking more ultrasounding for the coming months. Best of luck to those calving and making sale preparations!
