Umbrella Tree Family Childcare

Umbrella Tree is temporarily closing on April 1st as a result of COVID-19. The government has introduced new support measures to allow daycares to remain operational - which are wonderful, but not tailored to our unique small space. We will be reopening as SOON as we possibly can. In the words of my four year old: there’s a germ going around [but we’ll] be back soon! Stay healthy & safe, and look out for your neighbours.

Kind people are my kind of people. We’re celebrating #pinkshirtday, and feeling pretty ecstatic to be raising a generation of children who get to witness days like today - dedicated to being kind to others and being true to themselves.

We’ve gotten really into painting rocks around here (has anyone tried it?) like reaaaaally into it. The kids made these last week and asked me to make them into monsters. They’re just about the sweetest monsters I ever did see.

Spending the day with a crew of 1.5, almost-two, almost-three and an almost-four year-old has been known to yield similar results.

It may look like a bit of a free-for-all but it’s far from it! Free play is so crucial for development it’s actually scheduled into part of our daily routine. For a period each morning and afternoon you’ll find us here: creating, inventing, experimenting, imagining and exploring, all child-led.
