FACULTY SPOTLIGHT FRIDAY: In our first ever Faculty Spotlight Friday, we are featuring our very own Department Head Royce Koop! Royce Koop received his PhD in Political Science from the University of British Columbia in 2009 and, after three post-doctoral fellowships, came to the Department of Political Studies at the University of Manitoba in 2012. Royce’s research focuses on representation, political parties and local politics, both in Canada and other developed democr...acies. He is working on several projects related to the practice of representation in Canada elsewhere, and recently (with Heather Bastedo and Kelly Blidook) published Representation in Action (University of British Columbia Press, 2018), an account MPs’ representational styles that included ethnographic observation of 13 Canadian MPs while they were working in their ridings. Royce generally teaches in Canadian politics but also regularly teaches the department’s Introduction to Political Studies course. He has been Department Head since 2016 (and will be finished in December) and is now the Coordinator of the Canadian Studies Program in the Faculty of Arts. In addition, he writes a biweekly column for the Winnipeg Free Press. Professor Carrière also notes that Professor Koop also enjoys a nice dark roast before each class. #umanitoba #politics #cdnpoli #manitoba #winnipeg #canada #feature #faculty #spotlight
