What is Una Terra? We are a social enterprise filling a gap for urban Canadians women, majority of whom have never been formally taught about climate change in their education or through their career development. We are an inclusive space providing non-institutional & accessible education on sustainability in Canada in the next 10 years. Why? It’s a big goal: to reduce Canada’s ecological footprint by 50% by 2030. ... We have lots more information on our website but if you have any questions or would like to get involved please send us a message See more

In January we want to see even more Canadians joining in! By posting your photo you are helping Una Terra track tangible & qualitative statistics on our combined ecological impact across Canada (which will be one of our big projects for 2021)! HOW TO PARTICIPATE:... 1 Snap a photo of a pinky promise knot using any waste material you can find 2 Post on social media as a public pledge to reduce your ecological footprint by %50 and increase our positive impact - tag @unaterra.ca & #halvecanadasimpact #canadaspositiveimpact 3 Invite others to follow @unaterra.ca, share the campaign & post their own photo See more

Canada’s Top 5 Plastic polluters Nestle Tim Hortons Starbucks McDonald's ... Coca Cola But what does this actually mean? They are selling plastic to consumers, and these Canadians are not recycling these items. 3 of these photos were taken by me, with garbage I found on the streets. Even waste that gets put in the recycling bin has a 90% chance of not getting recycled. (This can be even higher in other cities across Canada). On top of the other ethical, social, health, environmental & economic issues related to these companies, they do have influence and an ability to create packaging that is made from 100% recycled materials. So why aren’t they? Because it’s cheaper to put the blame on consumers for not recycling properly & not invest in the systems/infrastructure needed to properly recycle (aka keep using new plastics or partially recycled materials). It’s time Canadians stood together to 1. Decrease consumption 2. Reuse items to increase lifespan of these items 3. Recycle properly 4. Keep these companies responsible for what they are doing to our county’s ecological footprint. Thank you to @surfrider & @greenpeace_canada for doing this research and mobilizing Canadians to clean up our trash and create meaningful changes in our society. #canadaspositiveimpact #halvecanadasimpact #breakfreefromplastic See more

We are determined to make teamwork an essential part of our success as we grow across Canada. BIWOC & minority groups, have been the most vulnerable to effects of Climate Change in Canada, but they have also been leading and living the solutions for decades! So yes, we aren't starting a movement, we are just bringing it to average women across the country.... Connect us with your networks, friends, family and local businesses who care. We will amplify the work being done and we will make it happen in 10 years. #halvecanadasimpact #canadaspositiveimpact See more

"While I began this journey a while back, I still have far to go and this campaign inspired me to re-commit to my promise to myself. I encourage everyone to take part in this challenge, especially if you're someone that hasn't thought about how you could reduce your own personal footprint. While we all know (well, I hope we all know by now, but anyways) that it's mostly large-scale corporations contributing to climate change & ecological destruction, I believe that... committing to a greener lifestyle on the individual level is still hugely important, if it is within your means to do so." We are so inspired by the passion and commitment of urban Canadian women like @pineco_nes. Thank you for accepting the challenge! Who's next? Share this post with someone you'd like to see accept the challenge. #halvecanadasimpact #canadaspositiveimpact See more

Despite knowing the future impacts of Climate Change since the 1970s/80s/90s, our federal and provincial governments did nothing to educate youth on the issue. RESULTS: Millennials and older generations have all entered into and formed the work field in Canada without any formal education on the environmental issues Canada is facing and how it connects with the rest of the world. PROBLEM: ALL of Canada’s top industries will be impacted by Climate Change by 2030. Wether... you work in retail, at a restaurant, as a nurse, orthodontist or construction professional, all our jobs will face challenges not yet seen before. SOLUTION: Una Terra is filling an education gap for urban Canadian women of working age by providing non institutional, science & cultural knowledge education that is fun, accessible and to the point. We go beyond media headlines and teach how YOU can participate as an individual to create tangible changes in Canada’s ecological footprint. Our blog is full of free resources and articles written by women just like you. Link in bio to read more. We are mobilizing average Canadian wom*n across 5 cities to bring their perspectives to our platform. Una Terra is not creating a movement, we are working to uplift the voices, skills and words of those who have been living the solutions already - and bringing this to everyday people. This education was not provided at the high school level, so now we are all trying to get a crash course (but we know you care about who is writing and for what purpose), so here we are! ... 10 years to reduce our ecological footprint as a country by 50%. We belong to the earth, and she gives us everything that we need to survive. How could we feel nothing but deep gratitude for this? Indigenous philosophy teaches of the 4 Rs: respect, relationship, reciprocity, and responsibility. Our relationship with the land should be built on respect, and reciprocity is our inherent responsibility. The western environmental movement began to gain mainstream popularity in the late 60’s. In particular, Silent Spring is often attributed as the catalyst and turning point for this conversation which was previously only discussed in academic & political circles. At this time, economic circles would have spoken about the environment but only in terms of value, demand and commodification. Want to add a few books to your reading list from this era and some of the most discus...sed topics of the time? Silent Spring by Rachel Carson The Bet by Paul Ehrlich & Julian Simon Also 100’s of other books published between 1960-2000. So why is our country still not fulfilling our international commitments and targets? Too many reasons to list in 1 IG post but we do know the next 10 years of the eco movement will be radically different. Una Terra is educating to help you get involved and increase #Canadaspositiveimpact Note: these 2 books are both written based on Eurocentric & western views. For books from different perspectives & more representative of current issues, we recommend looking through @strong_nations collection online. See more

Reducing our individual and corporate impact (waste, water use, energy use, land use, consumer goods purchasing & overall ecological footprint) to 50% of the 2003 levels by 2030 will be in line with our Paris Agreement in which Canada is currently failing its side of the bargain.
