Marcus Zwicker graduated in 2006 with a Bachelor of Science in Forestry and a Minor in Economics. After graduating he worked for JDI for 10 years, his roles over that decade grew from Road Construction Supervisor to Operations Superintendent and Sawmill Manager. In 2016 Marcus moved to Westfor Manage...ment to take on the General Manager position. Marcus said the biggest reward is seeing young people, grow, evolve, and become successful in their forestry careers including our contractor partners. And that the largest challenge is working through individual understanding, misinformation, and science to make forest management decisions that align with good science and desired social outcomes. Two billion hectares of land on Earth are degraded, affecting some 3.2 billion people, driving species to extinction, and intensifying climate change. What is ...the Goal? To sustainably manage forests, combat desertification, halt and reverse land degradation, and halt biodiversity loss. What is UNB doing? Dr. Tom Beckley, leading a research team from four institutions from Canada and the U.S., is using a SSHRC Partnership Development Grant to work with a group of progressive forestry and land management organizations to explore new approaches to private land forest management within the Acadian Forest, with a goal of making it more diverse and sustainable.
