What is Indigenous Nursing Knowledge and Practice? We are looking for two Indigenous undergraduate nursing students to help us begin to answer this question. ...Position: Nutsihpiluwewick Knowledge Gatherer Term: From Jan 2, 2021 until June 30, 2021 Hours: About 5 hours per week Salary: $14.20/hr Mentors/Supervisors: Ms. Amanda Myran (Piluwitahasuwin and Nursing Instructor, UNB) Dr. Jason Hickey (Associate Professor and CIHR Indigenous Research Chair in Nursing) Ms. Angelina Heer (Director, Nutsihpiluwewicik Indigenous Nursing Program) Ms. Kate Copage (Indigenous Experiential Education Coordinator, Future Ready Wabanaki) Job Description: In Canada, nursing students are exposed to a model of nursing practice that has roots in Western traditions. The work of reconcili-action must include supporting and investing in Indigenous-led cultural revitalization - the resurgence and reclamation of Indigenous knowledges, languages, and practices. Within nursing, this can be accomplished by creating opportunities for Indigenous nursing students to explore and integrate their ancestral ways of being, knowing, and doing to their nursing knowledge and practice. This position provides the opportunity to work closely with local Ckuwaponahki/Wabanaki Elders and community members. Additionally, this project will support consultation with Indigenous nursing leaders in other parts of the country.
