‘I want my son back’: B.C. mother pleads for information on man missing since 2016 Nov. 18, 2020 1:05 p.m.... It was Mother’s Day in 2016, and Dana Bosch knew something was wrong. Her son, Dane Stanway, didn’t call her. I knew something was wrong, Bosch said in a statement released by the Integrated Homicide Investigation Team (IHIT) Wednesday (Nov. 18). It’s been four years, six months and 10 days since Mother’s Day 2016, when I did not hear from my son. Just twelve days before that Mother’s Day, Stanway had spent four days with his mom and sister resting to get away from his life. Stanway had been fighting addiction, and although he had detoxed, he had relapsed. He left with a plan to change his life completely, to move away from the sunshine coast, to get and stay clean, Bosch said of the four-day trip. Dane called me on May 1, the last conversation I would ever have with my boy. He was happy and excited to do it right this time, Bosch daid. After many years of battling addiction, he was ready to be the true version of himself, to free himself of shame, remorse and the constant control of addiction. But then Stanway disappeared. He was reported missing on May 12, 2016, Homicide investigators believe the then 27-year-old may have met with foul play. Prior to his disappearance, Stanway lived in a house on Gilmour Road in Gibsons, on the Sunshine Coast. Nothing has been heard from him since his disappearance. Dane has been missing and presumed to have met with foul play and deceased, but how do we know and will we ever? I have no body, no conviction and none of his belongings. Living with this situation is devastating for me, my family and Dane’s friends. It is a daily challenge affecting our energy, ability to focus and get through everyday life. It is a very surreal situation; one I would pray no one has to endure, Bosch said. https://www.campbellrivermirror.com//i-want-my-son-back-b-

Finally!!!...... JUSTICE Man convicted of killing Vancouver woman, 27 years after her death. Rest in peace beautiful girl.... Last Updated: November 17... The circumstances surrounding the death of 23-year-old Vicki Black have remained a mystery ever since her body was first discovered in Vancouver in early March 1993. Now, after more than a quarter-century, the case has legal closure. In B.C. Supreme Court on Tuesday, Stephen Laroche pleaded guilty to the manslaughter of Vicki Black. He was sentenced to 10 years minus credit for 14 months of time served. "This was a completely pointless killing of Ms. Black," said Crown prosecutor Daniel Mulligan after court heard the agreed statement of facts of her death. The case of Black's death had been opened and closed many times prior to Laroche's conviction. After two years, the original investigation was closed when investigators were unable to identify a suspect. It wasn't until recently, when a DNA connection was made to Laroche, that officers were able to make a case. Laroche was in the system because he had previously been sentenced to life in prison for killing a woman in Manitoba in 1996. He was granted full parole in 2007. The court heard how, during an undercover investigation into Laroche, he admitted to an officer that he killed a woman in the early 1990s in Vancouver. He explained how he picked up Vicki Black although he didn't remember her name and took her back to his apartment where they did drugs and had sex. But the pair got into an argument over payment, with Black threatening Laroche that she would send her friends to assault him. He told the undercover officer that he got so angry he strangled Black. He later wrapped her body in a sheet and moved it to a dumpster in an East Vancouver alley. Joint sentencing submission In court, both the Crown and defence entered a joint sentencing submission, noting how Laroche pleaded guilty at the earliest availability to avoid a lengthier trial. Although he has also been convicted of another killing, the defence reminded the court that in 1993, at the time of Black's death, this was Laroche's first offence. "For purpose of sentencing, he is to be treated as a first offender," said Karin Blok, the defence lawyer. The joint submission asked for the sentence of 10 years minus time served and Justice Heather Holmes agreed. 'There are other girls out there': 26-year-old cold case haunts former Downtown Eastside beat cop "I'm very sorry for what I've done to Vicki Black and her family and friends. It was despicable," said Laroche as he addressed the court shortly before sentencing. "I left family and friends with questions of who and why and I hope that I am able to give them closure by being here. I'm grateful for the chance to plead guilty." https://www.cbc.ca//vicki-black-death-vancouver-stephen-la

Adam Strong's DNA detected in examination of human remains, expert testifies Tuesday, November 17, 2020 Bodily fluids linked to Adam Strong were detected during a forensic examination of human remains found in his apartment, an expert witness has testified at his murder trial.... The testimony came Tuesday, Nov. 16 as Maja Popovic, a biologist with the Centre of Forensic Sciences, began a review of the voluminous testing conducted before and after Strong’s arrest in late 2017. Among the findings were that semen detected among the body parts yielded a DNA profile attributed to Strong, court heard. Strong, 48, is charged with the first-degree murders of 18-year-old Rori Hache, who went missing in the summer of 2017, and Kandis Fitzpatrick, 19, who was last seen in 2008. Strong was arrested by police responding to a report that plumbers had extracted what appeared to be flesh from clogged pipes at his residence on McMillan Drive in Oshawa on the night of Dec. 29, 2017. Comments made by Strong that night led to the discovery of human remains, later confirmed to be those of Hache, in a freezer in the basement apartment, court has heard. Those remains were among dozens of items submitted by Durham police to the CFS for testing. During an overview of that testing Tuesday, prosecutor Bryan Guertin noted that swabs taken from a pelvis found in the freezer were found to bear semen, from which a DNA profile was harvested. It was a profile that was later attributed to Mr. Adam Strong, right? Guertin asked. Yes, Popovic replied. Popovic became involved in the case when Hache’s torso was found in the waters of the Oshawa Harbour in September of 2017, shortly after she went missing. It was then that a DNA profile for Hache was created at CFS, court heard. Popovic went on to author about two dozen reports arising from the investigation into Strong. Between early 2018 and the spring of 2020, police sent numerous items to the CFS for analysis, including a specialty hunting knife, found in a drawer in Strong’s kitchen, that was found to bear DNA linked to Fitzpatrick, court heard. Other items, included a hammer that was the focus of testimony Tuesday, were found to bear DNA linked Hache, court heard. On Nov. 16 court heard about the discovery of sneakers, later confirmed to have Hache’s blood on them, in Strong’s bedroom. Forensic evidence is central to what is a largely circumstantial Crown case against Strong. The Crown alleges the young women were killed either during sexual assaults or as they were being forcibly confined. The trial continues in Oshawa. https://www.durhamregion.com//10268779-adam-strong-s-dna-/
