University-Rosedale NDP 23.01.2021

RSVP HERE: https://www.ontariondp.ca/UniRose-nomination Jess Bell has spent her two years in office fighting for better transit, housing for all, for small businesses, for safer education, and for better healthcare. In 2021, she’s committed to fighting for a Green New Deal and to building a fair economy. Jess brings her community organizing background to her work at Queen’s Park every day. It’s why she never stopped knocking on doors before the pandemic, and why she has kept up calls to constituents and online town halls since. We’re excited and ready for the fight to keep Jessica as our provincial rep, and we hope you’ll join us to kick off the campaign!

I invite you to join me in support of our frontline PSW's and members of SEIU tomorrow for a rally outside of St George Community Care at 2:30. St. George Care... Community, which is located on 225 St. George St in my riding of University Rosedale, now has the largest COVID-19 outbreak in Ontario. As of January 5, there are 84 active resident cases and 51 active staff cases of COVID-19, and 6 residents have died. The staff and residents need help now, and we, as a society, need to change the laws of our province to stop these preventable tragedies from happening again. (Please wear a mask and practice social distancing at all times) See more

A huge thank you to our volunteers for helping with our Encampment Support Network Porch Pickups. We had 3 drivers making the rounds yesterday and have 3 more grabbing your donations today. We’re going to keep this going through the winter folks. Bureaucracy is failing our neighbours, but we won’t fail them or each other.

St. George Community Living, a for-profit LTC home owned by Sienna, is experiencing one of Ontario's worst COVID-19 outbreaks. Staffing levels here are critical...ly low, risking the health and safety of residents and the staff who care for them. Amidst the pandemic, Sienna chose to give millions of dollars to shareholders instead of reinvesting in residents to ensure better care. Since recording this video, staff and resident cases have increased to 137. I am deeply concerned. If you have a loved one living in St. Geroge or you are a staff member, please write or call my office to share your concerns. ([email protected] or 416-535-7206) It's well passed the time the Ministry of Long-Term Care does the right thing and get profit out of care.

Too many of our neighbors and friends are dying needlessly on our streets. All levels of government should be making our streets safer, from tougher penalties for drivers who injure and kill vulnerable road users, to a fully funded and ambitious Vision Zero plan, to lower speed limits, to protected cycling lanes. This can't keep happening. Please join the ride if you can.

Help us and Encampment Support Network send a message to the city of Toronto. We are in a crisis and that requires a response that treats people humanely.

We're calling on John Tory, City of Toronto - Your Local Government, Mike Layton, Toronto Parks, Forestry and Recreation and Toronto Shelter, Support & Housing Administration Division to stop the punitive encampment clearing and support Torontonians in need, now.

You've help rally items for encampment support network, and we've had volunteers help build these shelters. To think someone's actively trying to burn them down is sickening. This needs a proper investigation, not condemnation on their perceived safety.
