As the year draws to a close, we are wrapping up our top 5 stories that made us grateful to call Windsor-Essex home. We couldn't help but be inspired by Brooklyn's journey to post-secondary education. Graduating high school wasn't easy for Brooklyn. Her family struggled financially, she experienced bullying as she entered ninth grade and she fell behind academically. She didn't see herself going to college until she was connected to a Success Coach through United Way's On Tr...ack to Success Program. Throughout her four years in the program, she worked hard to overcome both personal and academic challenges. She attended counselling, daily tutoring sessions, and ultimately regained her confidence. Brooklyn graduated high school in June 2020, and now attends St. Clair College for Graphic Design. She is the first person in her family to attend college and hopes to use her own story to inspire young people to be the best that they can be. WATCH: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=sucmY2LsG4Y&t=2s
Another Top 5: We need more people like Andy Aodisho in the world. He is dedicated, fearless and creative when it comes to advocating for change. After attending United Way’s #UNIGNORABLE Campaign Kick-Off event, Andy was inspired to write and record a song about the importance of making childhood poverty #UNIGNORABLE in our community. Last month, he released his song to help raise $30,000 towards launching a new On Track to Success student cohort in Downtown Windsor. As the year draws to a close, we're sharing another top story that warmed our hearts and made us grateful to call Windsor-Essex home. #YQGSTANDSSTRONG: We were very excited to collaborate with the City of Windsor - Municipal Government, Tourism Windsor Essex, local small business and BB Branded for the #YQGStandsStrong t-shirt campaign. With every t-shirt sold, $5 was donated to the Windsor Essex COVID Care Coalition. The campaign raised $4000, and helped children and youth living in low-income access the technology they needed for online learning.
Congratulations to selected entrant Joanne Meloche of Windsor! Thank you to everyone who supported the Together We Dream 50/50 Draw. Proceeds help us invest in many programs and services that help kids be ready to learn, have the nutrition they need, and provide services that wrap around the family so that kids can thrive in and out of school. Our next 50/50 draw will be held in April, 2021.
Final celebration & total fundraising amount revealed!
COVID19 IMPACT: The Windsor-Essex Food Helpline ensured that individuals and families who were in need could safely access emergency food. With the help of generous partners, donors and volunteers, we supported more than 7,300 individuals and children. http://ow.ly/WmpG50Ctoai

As the year draws to a close, we're sharing the stories that make us feel grateful to call Windsor-Essex home. After months of anxiety and facing the unknown, we wanted to take a moment to celebrate United Way’s On Track to Success Graduating Class of 2020. Our Success Coaches headed to each graduating senior’s home with balloons, signs, and t-shirts to celebrate this major milestone at a distance. This year, the On Track to Success Program supported 106 students, with 55 students graduating high school in June 2020. WATCH: https://www.youtube.com/watch?app=desktop&v=kHXTwhdsgQg
