Asking for help isn’t always easy. Dialling 2-1-1 will confidentially connect you with a 211 Navigator who can help find the right support in your community for your situation, whether it's housing, food, or more. #HelpStartsHere

Grateful to support amazing organizations, like Jimmy Pratt Outreach Center, through our Community Fund. Jimmy Pratt Outreach Center provides a series of programming dedicated to assisting our patrons in overcoming everyday barriers to life. This is accomplished by offering hot nourishing meals, small food hampers, Internet access and other necessary services in a warm, friendly, non-intrusive and welcoming environment.

We are grateful to support great community organizations, like Youth 2000 Centre. The Youth 200 Centre has been an active community youth centre since 2000. Through their partnership with the YMCA, their aim is to provide diverse programs for youth and young adults, ages 5-29, which in return gives them positive attitudes, a sense of direction, opportunities for keeping active and much more.

Thank you to Justin Trudeau and the Government of Canada for their support of 211 expansion. 211 if a free, confidential, phone line available across the province. Callers will be connected with a navigator who will point them in the direction of any social service they may be needing - managing bills, food bank, support group, legal advisor, employment opportunities and so much more.

We recently had the pleasure of supporting the Bowring Park Foundation Inc. through our Community Fund. This donation, made possible by our Workplace Campaign donors, supported installation of a water staircase (Aqua Step HD) at the Bowring Park Pool.

During the first wave of #COVID19, 211 services across Canada saw a dramatic increase in the number of people reaching out for help. In some provinces, contact volume jumped 200 per cent. With support from the federal government, we are proud to announce the 211 service is now available in Newfoundland and Labrador. Today our Executive Director attended AFP Newfoundland and Labrador's National Philanthropy Day Celebration at Manuels River. This year's event was extra special as we had the opportunity to recognize a group that goes above and beyond for the communities of Newfoundland and Labrador every year. We are thrilled to share that the 2020 receipt of Sprit of Philanthropy Award (Group) goes to the Government of Canada Workplace Charitable Campaign (GCWCC - CCMTGC). The Spirit of Ph...ilanthropy award honouring a special purpose philanthropic group who has exhibited outstanding commitment to philanthropy and community involvement. This is demonstrated through financial support, generous contributions of time, encouragement, and motivation of others to follow their lead. Congratulations to the Government of Canada Workplace Charitable Campaign and the employees who made this possible! Accepting the award is Jatinder Bath from Canada Revenue Agency.

One of our ECSF Round 1 recipients, Quadrangle NL, was excited to share a message on behalf of their Board of Directors: "Quadangle NL is grateful to United Way NL and the Government of Canada for the support from Round One of the Emergency Community Support Fund (ECSF). As a newly registered charity of 2019 this was the first large grant we’ve been approved for. It kicked off our charitable work, allowing us to support the 2SLGBTQIA+ community of Newfoundland and Labrador.... With COVID-19 many of our planned events had been cancelled, however this opportunity has allowed us to pursue our provincial work and to hire a member of the 2SLGBTQIA+ community during a very difficult time for employment. With this grant we are able to create meaningful events and supports that will affect the community across the province, as we continue to work alongside other local organizations and make strong connections that are helping to support us through these times, and move us more strongly into our 'new normal'. Thank you United Way Newfoundland and Labrador and the Government of Canada." For more information on eligibility and applications, please visit: www.unitedwaynl.ca/who-we-help/covid-19response/
