The final donations have been counted and the United Way of Sarnia-Lambton has officially wrapped up the 2020 fundraising campaign. With the addition of gifts made online and through the mail before year end, the 2020 campaign has closed at 92% ($1,753,000) of the $1,900,000 Needs Target. Despite not reaching the Needs Target, we were overwhelmed with the generosity of our community during the year, said Vicky Ducharme, campaign chair. We faced uncertainty around each corn...er of the campaign but with the help of volunteers, donors, and workplaces we will continue to help Lambton County’s youth, families and seniors. We worked with several agencies in 2020 to help meet the urgent needs of the most vulnerable in our community, said Dave Brown, executive director. The non-profits included our current cycle of funded programs as well as agencies not currently funded and those who have never applied for funding in the past. We were not able to run a typical campaign in 2020, but I think everyone went above and beyond from our corporate partners to our individual donors and organized labour. I am very proud to be a part of a community that values helping others, said Brown. United Way of Sarnia-Lambton currently funds over 36 programs and services provided by 18 agencies. The volunteer Board of Directors will approve the 2021 funding in Mid-January.

United Way of Sarnia-Lambton Reaches the $500,000 Mark of the Needs Target With the quietest kick off in recent memory, the United Way campaign team has been working away with community volunteers to reach the $1.9 million Needs Target. The target, set by the local volunteer Board of Directors, is unchanged from 2019 and has hit the $500,000 mark. Local businesses have been working on creative ideas to boost their own staff morale during this pandemic while raising funds fo...r United Way of Sarnia-Lambton, said Campaign Chair Vicky Ducharme. We are booking virtual presentations to employee groups; we have had fun at the drive thru breakfasts and lunches. United Way of Sarnia-Lambton was forced to cancel all its signature fall fundraising events, including Day of Caring, Locally Lambton Dinner & Auction, Sarnia Sting Black vs White game. The issues Lambton County faced prior to the pandemic including mental health, food insecurity, poverty and isolation have not gone away. We will continue to raise funds for 36 local programs that help our most vulnerable youth, families and seniors, said Ducharme. The United Way of Sarnia-Lambton campaign focuses on three priority areas; Healthy Resilient Successful Kids, Empowering and Strengthening Self Sustaining Families; and Healthy, Safe and Independent Seniors.
