We've had a lot of questions about our call for artists for La Commune 2021, and here are some answers! Click the link in our bio to view the full call Q: What is The Paris Commune? A: The Paris Commune erupted in the spring of 1871 following more than a century of political, social, and economic transformation in France. After months of war and siege, the French capital’s working-class population rose up in March, holding elections, and forming their own government. This y...ear is the 150th anniversary. Q: What is this free school? A: La Commune 2021 is a virtual free school on the Paris Commune developed by Roxanne Panchasi, and hosted on U/P's website from March-June. Open to the public, its multiple weeks of educational and cultural programming will include: readings, performances, lectures, musical and artistic interventions, and discussion. Q: What will the resident artists do? A: 10 successful applicants will each be assigned one week of La Commune 2021, to participate in activities and create responses in whatever media. Because the Paris Commune revolutionaries made proclamations through posters, we've titled the artists' responses 'affiches,' the French word for posters. Each applicant will receive $500, and their affiche will be presented on U/P's website. Q: Who is eligible to apply? A: This call is open to early-career artists and cultural practitioners based in British Columbia. Full-time students are not eligible to apply. Applicants must either be under the age of 30, or have completed their training within the last five years. More information on eligibility in the full call, available at unitpitt.ca Q: How do I apply, and when is the deadline? A: To apply, visit "Call for Applicants: LA COMMUNE 2021 RESIDENT ARTISTS" on our website, unitpitt.ca | The deadline to apply is January 22, 2021 at 23:59 PST
