Re-opening Update: Good day everyone! I just wanted to give you an update on our plans fore re-opening the store. With the current roadmap for Ontario, businesses are now allowed to re-open with responsible social distancing measures put in place. What this means for Universal Coins is that we will be able to start allowing customers into the store with these new protections. It may seem a bit different now, with a limit of three people in our storefront at a time. This m...eans that customers who wish to peruse our catalogue of coins will be welcome to do so, but may be asked to finish up to allow for other customers. Customers may be asked to wait outside before they can be served. In addition, we will continue to allow for orders of coin supplies on our website and over the phone. If you know exactly what you're looking for, this will be the best course of action, as we will absolutely be providing curb-side pick-up of all orders. As we were before, we will continue to accept VISA/MasterCard credit cards and Interac, as well as cash. If you would like to take advantage of our curb-side pick-up service, we will have your items ready in about 24 hours and when you come to pick up your order, please call us from the parking lot with your car make and license plate number. Our customer capacity limit will also apply to appraisals. If you wish to have a collection appraised, we encourage you to call or email us to set an appointment. We also ask that you come see one person at a time, so as to accomodate our other customers. We are working to make our establishment safe for everyone in this post-pandemic world and we appreciate everyone's patience and accommodation. We will be open on Tuesday, May 19th at 10:30am and our hours of operation will resume as normal. We will see you then!

Just a small status update: We are all still doing well and hope you and yours are in kind. The Ontario government's Declaration of Emergency has been extended until May 12th, which means the earliest we can now expect to open our doors is May 13th. Hopefully this will be the extent of it, or that the rules for non-essential business are relaxed a bit.... In other news, the gold and silver markets are in completely uncharted territory right now. With most of the world's refiners (including the Royal Canadian Mint, Valcambi, Argor-Heraeus, and PAMP closed, but now having restarted production at 50%), the global supply chain has nearly ground to a halt. Our suppliers of gold and silver bullion are extremely limited in what they are willing to book, most of it coming down to "generic" bars that are .999 pure, but not produced from any globally recognized assayer. Further to that point, the closest estimate of delivery for any of these orders is a minimum of 8 weeks. What this means is that when businesses begin operations in earnest after the Declaration of Emergency, there is going to be a major crunch on supply for items like Gold and Silver Maple Leafs and there is no telling where the premiums for those items will be. Currently dealers that are selling (if they have any available) are asking for premiums of $8-10 above spot, where previously those premiums were closer to $3-4. We will be doing whatever we can in the meantime to try to meet all of the demand that is out there for a hungry market! In the interim, everyone be safe and keep an eye on this space for any new developments!

UPDATE: In light of the Ontario government's announcement to close all non-essential businesses, we will be closed entirely until April 7th.
