Art For (Lunch) via Zoom with grad students: Larissa Kitchemonia Alyssa Scott... Amy Snider Brenda Watt Date: Friday Nov.27 Time: Noon to 1 pm Register through Eventbrite : https://www.eventbrite.ca/e/art-for-lunch-with-mfa-candidat The Zoom link will be in your confirmation email under Additional Information Bios: Larissa Kitchemonia’s painting and beadwork practices explore themes of nature, womanhood and motherhood embedded with traditional First Nation ideology and practices. The focus of my work is rooted in reclaiming traditional identities and exploring Anishinaabe Saulteaux culture and traditions. I have a deep respect and appreciation for education and learning and through my work I try to create art that captures life lessons and teachings I have been given. Some of my works deal with autobiographical representations of my Coco’s (grandmother) life. My artworks manifest as paintings, beadwork or installations and are meant to be engaged with as a means to share knowledge and teachings. Alyssa Scott is an emerging visual artist currently based out of Regina. Originally from Odessa, Ontario, her work is largely based in the grounding spaces of nature of her home. She received a Bachelor of Fine Art (Honours) with Distinction from Queen's University in 2019 and a Bachelor of Education from Queen’s University in 2020. She is now pursuing a Master of Fine Arts from the University of Regina. She utilizes painting, printmaking, photography, creative writing, found objects and collage in her works. Currently she is working on a print installation and a creative writing book. Amy Snider’s work conjoins an interest in creating art and a desire to do something about climate change. She completed a post-bac in Visual Arts at the University of Regina earlier this year with a focus on ceramics. In this first semester of her MFA, however, she has been experimenting with the non-material practices of performance and participatory art-making with the objective of engaging a wider (public) audience while producing work that has a smaller environmental footprint itself. Brenda Watt’s illustrates on ceramic jars and platters to tell the stories she finds meaningful. Her works portray the daily lives and collective narratives that define this time. I am interested in how we inherit models for understanding present-day experiences from the narratives shared between generations. Through my illustrations, I explore the interplay between the story and image timelines with the form that carries them. My forms are, by design familiar and domestic, as they are intended to deliver their stories into the daily experience of people. Each piece begins at a computer with aggregators that gather news, social media and create emotional temperature tables, then moves into my studio where contemporary where contemporary content and tools are united with historic techniques and media.
