Congrats to our own Prof Pownall on her latest work, on the Hellenistic period! This volume offers a tribute to the pioneering work of Elizabeth D. Carney on th...e social dynamics of the Macedonian court. Moving beyond the traditional focus on the structure and functioning of monarchical institutions or on the strategic and tactical dimensions of political and military events in Ancient Macedonia, her scholarship offered the academic world a completely new perspective on the network of relationships surrounding the exercise of power at the Macedonian court. Building on the dialogue between socio-cultural and political factors developed by Elizabeth Carney, the essays in this volume, written by a team of international experts, investigate how dynastic behaviour and interpersonal relations influenced the complex history of the Hellenistic Age. History Professor Jaymie Heilman is currently running workshops for the Hostile Terrain 94 exhibition. This global pop-up exhibit is composed of approximately 3,200 individually handwritten toe tags each tag carries the names and available information about individuals who died attempting to cross the Sonoran Desert of Arizona from 1994 through 2019. During a 45-minute workshop, you will learn more about the refugee crisis on the US-Mexico border and bear witness to those who lost their lives by filling in roughly 10 tags. The exhibit will run in FAB gallery in early 2021, and the magnitude of this project means it won't be possible without the workshop participation of volunteers like you.
