Brielle LeBlanc and Sean Galway, BA(Hons)’20, are two young filmmakers who both studied at King’s. While Brielle takes a year off from their degree, the two are collaborating on a short film that has earned them some major support from the Atlantic Filmmakers Cooperative, through the FILM 5 program. As they enter the production phase, they took some time to discuss their film, and to share some streaming advice. I always suggest ‘The Day Trippers’, says Brielle. It’s from... 1997, Greg Mottola directed it, and I think it’s a pretty underrated film. It’s hilarious, the dialogue is really greatit’s a comedy, and it’s about this family that goes to New York in their station wagon to see if the daughter’s fiancé is cheating on her. So it’s the entire family and they’re all yelling and screamingit’s the two sisters, and one of the sisters’ boyfriend, and they’re all bickeringit’s a hilarious movie. Maybe I’ll go with something local then, muses Sean. Ok, so it’s a bit of a double-bill if you want it to betwo films by two really exciting Nova Scotian directors whoif you haven’t heard of themcheck them out immediately. Heather Young, who’s Halifax-basedher film ‘Murmur’I think it’s on CBC GEM, and if it’s not, it might be in the future. Then one that is definitely on Gem (and as well on the Criterion Channel) is Ashley McKenzie’s ‘Werewolf.’ She’s from Cape Breton. They’re really great in my respect, both of them. https://ukings.ca//bubbling-up-and-doubling-down-how-to-l/
