Congratulations to Sask Masks, an honouree in the Outstanding Youth Philanthropist category, sponsored by Jim Pattison Children's Hospital Foundation. An initi...ative created to address the shortage of personal protective equipment, Sask Masks was quick to show leadership in response to the COVID-19 outbreak. The non-profit organization is led by four community-minded students of the University of Regina’s Paul J. Hill School of Business, who put in many long hours in their homes every week to produce handmade, reusable cloth masks. The net proceeds, totaling more than $43,000, benefited local charities, including Regina & District Food Bank, Carmichael Outreach, and YWCA Regina. Congratulations, Sask Masks! Our celebration of the 2020 National Philanthropy Day awards, presented by DCG Philanthropic Services Inc. continues throughout November.

Learn the Figure Eight Drill with University of Regina Cougars women's soccer player Ally Schneider! The figure eight drill is a great way to work on combinin...g turns and dribbling in one fluid motion, using all surfaces of the feet, and using pattern recognition when dribbling the ball. There are many variations that can be added to this drill such as making the distance greater for a longer dribble, adding more turns, timing yourself to see how many repetitions are possible in a set amount of time, and using different surfaces of the foot to dribble around and through the cones. How the drill works: 1. To start, set up two triangles using any household items (it doesn’t have to be cones) and place them roughly eight steps apart with the tip of the triangle inward. 2. Next, pick a triangle you would like to start at and line up at the peak of the triangle 3. From there, dribble the ball to the other triangle you have made by crossing sides. Imagine there is a line that it connected to each triangle peak and you have to cross it in order to reach the other triangle. 4. Once you have dribbled to the peak of the next triangle, drag the ball across your body with the sole of your foot to come out the other side of the triangle. 5. After achieving the turn, dribble out the other side of the triangle and cross the imaginary line back to the other side. 6. This will create a figure eight pattern. 7. Great Job everyone! Key Points to Remember: Keep the ball close to you when dribbling outside the cones Open your hips up when turning and make sure to be light on your feet for that part Keep your head up as much as possible when you are completing the drill Remember to challenge yourself and most importantly have fun! Making mistakes is awesome so keep trying and show us your fabulous moves!

Taylor Bubnick, a player on the University of Regina Cougars women's soccer team, demonstrates how to improve your distribution and passing with wall work! Belo...w are additional tips from Taylor! You can use many variations and footwork patterns (only a few are shown in this video). Try to add in different turns and use different parts of the foot to receive and distribute the ball (inside, outside, sole, laces, etc..). You can even place your target spot higher on the wall and incorporate juggling, chips, and long balls. The biggest thing is to BE CREATIVE!!! Key Points to Remember: -Keep your eyes on the target spot -Lock your ankle -Use your hip and your leg to follow through for each pass -Keep your feet moving (this will help you to adjust if you misplace a pass or the ball goes astray) *An added challenge can be setting a timer for 30 seconds and tracking the number of times you successfully hit your target spot. Then try to beat this score each time you complete the drill. This will help increase your speed and your accuracy. Feel free to increase or decrease the distance. If you are achieving a lot of success, move back a step and try to do the same thing but from farther away from the target spot. If you are finding the task difficult, move closer to the wall. Remember always to push yourself and work on your technical edge. When you do this, you are bound to make mistakes. Mistakes are good, they are what make you better. Don't get frustrated, just slow down the pattern and focus on the quality of your work, not the number of repetitions when starting out. No partner, no problem! Have fun!!!!
