GHOST DOG: THE WAY OF THE SAMURAI (1999) is now on Blu-ray and DVD! Jim Jarmusch combined his love for the ice-cool crime dramas of Jean-Pierre Melville and Sei...jun Suzuki with the philosophical dimensions of samurai mythology for an eccentrically postmodern take on the hit-man thriller. Featuring moody cinematography by the great Robby Müller, a sublime score by the Wu-Tang Clan’s RZA, and a host of colorful character actors (including a memorably stone-faced Henry Silva), GHOST DOG plays like a pop-culture-sampling cinematic mixtape built around a one-of-a-kind tragic hero. https://www.criterion.com//31032-ghost-dog-the-way-of-the- Our edition of the film includes: a new Q&A with Jarmusch, in which he responds to questions sent in by fans; a new conversation between Forest Whitaker and Isaach De Bankolé, moderated by Michael B. Gillespie; a new video essay on RZA's score by filmmaker Daniel Raim; deleted scenes and outtakes; archival interviews; essays by critics Jonathan Rosenbaum and Greg Tate; a 2000 interview with Jarmusch; and much more!

We're featuring some Staff Picks this month during our The Criterion Collection 40% off sale! The first one up is camera-shy Jeff, who works in our warehouse and is always asking everyone, "Have you seen this movie?" He's managed to narrow down his favorite films from the Collection. The entire Criterion catalogue is 40% off until November 30, shop your favourites at https://bit.ly/2U6Lj0p!... GILDA: Because I love Rita Hayworth and not just because Glenn Ford is related to Kerry! (Kerry is our VP of Distribution & Marketing) THE FRIENDS OF EDDIE COYLE: Becuase it features an actual Bruins game and also stars Peter Boyle. TAMPOPO: The best food movie of all time. ROSEMARY'S BABY: Great cast, and it underscores how hard it is (to this day) to find an apartment in New York. THE NIGHT OF THE HUNTER: What a cast. What favourites have you picked up during the sale?

Disc of the week in NOW Magazine is Arrow Video's SILENT RUNNING, where they praise Bruce Dern's "eccentric and soulful performance." Not typical sci-fi praise! Check it out yourself at unobstructedview.com!

Our next staff pick comes from our President, Jonathan Gross. He's a former film critic and has discerning taste! If you subscribe to our newsletter, you are already familiar with his taste in films, so you might be able to guess what he selected. These films and the rest of the The Criterion Collection catalogue are 40% off in through November! Shop here: https://bit.ly/2U6Lj0p The Great Escape: because it's McQueen being McQueen at his best, and because "Once Upon A Time......In Hollywood" confirmed that Tarantino feels the same way about McQueen in that film. (Shout out to my pal and Great Escapist Joe Amodei.) An Unmarried Woman: For the simple reason that Paul Mazursky never got a victory lap and this film is why he should have. It not only delivered Jill Clayburgh to stardom but painted a view of a dissolved marriage that still holds up today. And Mazursky, who also delivers on screen as a great schmuck, has a visual handle on New York that is second only to Woody Allen. What are your top selections from the Collection?
