For those of you who have been following me for the last little bit, it may or may not come as a surprise to you when I admit that I had a big, traditional wedding. . . Almost 9 years ago, my hubby and I had 150 of our friends and relatives present, in the church with the white dress, did the big reception, and followed just about every tradition to the letter. .... My family (especially being the only girl) 100% expected that we have a big wedding, society told me that a big wedding was the only way to do it, and so that's what I thought my only option was, to have the big wedding. . While it was a lovely day that I wouldn't do over again if given the chance (let's be honest, I got to marry my best friend!), there was a part of me that wanted to keep it small and intimate, but it was very quickly squashed early on in planning. . That is why I'm such a staunch advocate for my couples now. Having a small wedding can be hard, especially if you have a demanding family as I did. But over and over again, my couples who have followed their hearts and had an intimate wedding have said it was the best decision they ever made. . Why? . Because they had a close personal relationship with every, single person in attendance. They were surrounded by nothing but the love of the people in their lives who really matter and getting to celebrate with them. And I don't know about you, but that sounds pretty perfect to me. . What about you? What kind of wedding do you dream of? Drop a if you think an intimate wedding or a if having a big, traditional wedding (No judgement! We all have different wishes) #yeg #yegweddingplanner #yegweddings #microweddings #microweddingsedmonton #edmontonweddingplanner #elopements #doityourway #smallweddings #weddingplanner #weddingplanning #edmonton #engaged #coronawedding #loveisnotcancelled #weddingpostponed #smallwedding #unweddingmovement

There's nothing I love more than seeing couples who choose personal details for their wedding attire. . This gorgeous maple leaf hair clip was added by this bride because she had been heavily involved with @girlguidesofcanada most of her life and as a Girl Guide leader still, Maple Leaf is her pseudo name. .... There are so many things on the market to personalize your wedding attire now. From crazy socks and cufflinks to custom jewelry and attire, there's plenty of ways to let your story and your personality shine. . Are you considering any personalized accessories for your wedding attire? #edmontonweddingplanner #yegweddingplanner #albertaweddingplanner #destinationweddingplanner #weddingattire #personaldetails #yeg #yegweddings #weddingdesigner #weddingplanner #weddinginspiration #weddinginspo #allinthedetails #weddingday #weddingdetails #weddingstyle #planningawedding #thatsdarling #eventplanner #eventplanning #eventstyling #luxurywedding #dreamwedding #weddingprofessionals #weddingpro #unweddingmovement

I'm sure we've all heard this one at some point.....Something old, something new, something borrowed, something blue. . Definitely, a common phrase that many consider when choosing their wedding attire and accessories. But where did this phrase come from and why do we still say it? . Well firstly, this is not the whole phrase. There's the oft-forgotten last line, "...and a sixpence in her shoe." But what do these 5 items have to do with getting married, and why does it remai...n such a pervasive part of Western Wedding traditions today? . It originated in the English County of Lancashire during the Victorian. The blue was for the garter, and the old and blue items protected the bride from the Evil Eye, a curse that was believed to make women infertile. The borrowed would be undergarments from a woman who already had children, believed to trick the Evil Eye into thinking the bride was already fertile. #Icantmakethisshitup . Today, the tradition has evolved where all these items generally represent luck. "Something old stands for continuity; something new shows optimism for the future; something borrowed symbolizes borrowed happiness; and something blue represents purity, love, and fidelity. And if a non-British bride is so lucky to find a sixpence to put in her shoe, she uses it as a wish for good fortune and prosperity. . While a fun little rhyme that perhaps once had its place, this is one tradition that is not being followed as much anymore. (A sixpence actually is not that comfortable in your shoe, trust me, I did it. #weallmakemistakes . Although buying a kick *ss pair of blue shoes like these ones from @sjpcollection is a great way to add a nice pop of colour to your attire.
