Be kind . Normally when humans undergo a collective challenge or threat, gathering and connecting is part of our coping strategy. However, many people are experiencing disruption to these social patterns. This not only exacerbates the chronic stress but also cuts us off from our day to day support systems. When the human body experiences a threat response- either acute or chronic- we lose connection to our socially engaged state. Our nervous system shifts into fight, ...flight, freeze or faint response and re routes our energy and focus towards basic survival. While these responses are necessary in acute scenarios, they can be detrimental when the response is chronic. In an ideal world, we would have minimal chronic stress. Our systems would perform as designed when we experience sudden stress. After the event, we find resolutions through social reinforcement, playful movement and other natural ways that would help us prevent the experience from becoming entrenched in our bodies as trauma or PTSD. The Polyvagal Theory: -when you notice someone smile at you, do you ever notice you slow down, make eye contact and spread warmth from your smile thst moves into your cheeks and eyes? As humans, we are wired for social engagement. Dr.Stephen Porgess’s polyvagal theory states that, over time, our original nervous system developed into our modern, more complex system, with the fight or flight system arising and then the ventral vagus nerve- which controls the social engagement system. The ventral vagal complex mediates a sense of well being and a willingness to connect and cooperate with others. Chronic stress disrupts this system and prevents us from accessing these beneficial effects. When humans are isolated we miss out on crucial opportunities for healthy interactions. Co regulation refers to the way our nervous system has further developed to pay attention or attune to other people and animals nervous systems around us. Yoga is not a luxury it is a necessity-Gloria Latham Yoga lights up & activates parts of our brain and decreases activity in other areas. Neuroplasticity- is the brains ability to create new neural patterns, adapt to old ones and respond with new ones ... For example, after brain injuries or traumas, people learn to walk and talk again, there are parts of the brain that die, so the brain adapts. This is flexibility, our true human capacity, to heal, pick ourselves back up, adapt and heal. Even amongst change, this is when yoga practices become important. Not after something happens, but before. In practice, we use the eyes, hands and tongue, to rewire the brain. On a subtle energetic level, we stimulate the elements, known as Tattvas. The past begins to falls away and we respond to life in new ways. We open up to experiences as we let go of old habits. This is the truth behind the law of attraction, the discipline. In case someone needed this today! It's never easy, facing the reality of your life and knowing that something has to change and it has to change now. ~ Sometimes, the best decision you will ever make is to leave your pride and past expectations at the door and be brave enough to start over.... ~ It might be a bitter pill to swallow, it might break your heart in two but sometimes starting over and moving in a new direction is the best move you will ever make. ~ I've started over many times in my life. I've had to re - build myself, my career and my life more times than I care to share. I've had to leave behind the things which once mattered to me, to pursue the things that truly matter to me and I assure you it's not always easy or particularly inspiring. ~ In fact, it's usually quite the opposite, until you finally let go of what could have been and turn your attention to what can be. ~ Starting over can seem scary. But one thing I can share with you is that there is always something better and more beautiful and wondrous up ahead. ~ You won't always know it at the time and you won't always believe that things will be better, especially when you're going through a rough patch. But if you give yourself a little time you'll eventually see that everything works out in the end. ~ I'm grateful for the times I messed up, I failed and couldn't quite find my feet, because it's those moments that force you to look elsewhere and look within and consider a different path. ~ Starting over is never easy, but often it's necessary and it's often the best move you'll ever make because it's the universes way of forcing you to move forward and let go of what once was. ~ There is no shame in starting over, in fact most of the people you admire have had to start over many times. Being in a constant state of pressure is doing you more harm than good! The minute you release the false expectations of yourself, your body, your emotions- you will feel lighter! Then the body can do its work for you(once you do) because it’s not being sabotaged or pushed along, spoke to negatively or held hostage for everything’s it not doing. What if dropping into your human space, your vessel, your body brought you the foundation for change and more space to invite possibilities in? Your attachment style is not an identity. You are not a pathology or a label. Labels can help us to an extent - to understand or express an experience, but we have to be careful not to over identify with our labels our marry ourselves to a pathology. Anxious or avoidant or disorganized, at the heart of it all: you are a human who adapted to survive and you can heal.... Acknowledge the little wins and give yourself permission to grow beyond the container of your attachment style. A practice to try on: instead of saying I’m anxious, or I’m avoidant try saying: sometimes I feel anxious or avoidant and I’m working towards becoming more secure in my relationships. One of the most empowering things we can do when on the healing Path is to check ourselves when we are becoming too identified with ideas of being broken or in need of fixing.
