Listen up! The GP2B team is back with another podcast: Finding Your "Aha!" moment in Family Medicine - with Dr. Jess Kirkwood.

Department of Family Medicine University of Alberta 13.02.2021

Meet Nicole (she/her), an R2 from the Red Deer site! "I grew up on a farm north of Edmonton so rural medicine was an obvious choice for me. I love that being a rural resient means that I get to explore so many different communities in Alberta. The higlight of residency has been the days that I get to work in the same clinic as my sister ("the other Dr. Roshko") in Westlock, AB. Every Thursday, we walk downtown to a cute little place called Kerri's Cafe and treat ourselves to the best tea in town. I am lucky that being a rural physician runs in my family!"

Meet Kate (she/her) and Greg (he/him), two R2s in the Edmonton program! "Greg and I couples-matched to U of A family medicine because, besides the program's excellent academic reputation, we knew the program was supportive of residents' work life balance and personal lives! The program has been so accommodating that we have been able to take all of our vacations together and did our rural rotations together. We even got a puppy in R2!" #carmsmatch #carms2021 #uofa #uofafamilymedicine #familymedicine #couplesmatch #puppy

Throwback to a few weeks ago with ChristMIS Secret Santa, Kaye UberEats Roulette and ChristMAC Secret Santa. It has been challenging to stay connected during the pandemic and especially over the holiday season. Residents have been creating unique events to gather virtually this year. #tbt #uofafamilymedicine #carmsmatch #carms2021

New grad feature: Dr. Kenton Nicholson (Class of 2020, Edmonton) is honing a broad range of skills working as a rural locum in Hinton and High Level where he does a combination of clinic, emergency, in-patient care, and surgical assist. "I chose the U of A Family Medicine program because I knew it would prepare me for the broad range of practice I have today. The U of A Family Medicine program lets you decide where you want to focus your time and ensures you get the training you need to feel confident as a new grad." #carms2021 #ruralfamilymedicine #uofafamilymedicine #uofa #trainherepracticeanywhere

An excellent opportunity to learn about this issue, including the recent research being led by Dr. Jasneet Parmar from the Department of Family Medicine.

Resident Feature: Deanna (she/her) is an R1 in the Grande Prairie program. She is originally from Lymburn, Alberta and hopes to give back to her rural roots. She has special interest in Emergency medicine, Women’s health, and Mental health. Deanna loves her outdoor adventures, which even landed her on the Price is Right! Sadly, she bid too high on an espresso machine to make it to the stage, but she got a T-shirt for her efforts! #ruralfamilymedicine #carms2021 #uofafamilymedicine #carmsmatch
