#FeatureFriday Meet Researchique - Nadine Suliman a fiercely talented passionate activist and graduate student within our research group. She is fueled by a drive and passion to make the world a better place, and has taken it upon herself to focusher work as a researcher and beyond on issues of social justice and global inequalities. More on Nadine:... What do you love about geothermal? I view geothermal energy as one of the many pillars of hope that can reside at the intersection of scientific innovation and social and environmental research towards a sustainable future. Your fave spots in YEG? Being new to the city, YEG has found a way to grow on me. From the peaceful walks along the riverside, to all the small but exceptional local businesses, to the city's commitment to creating accessible outdoor environments, YEG surely has its unique character and appeal. Your Favourite Hobbies? When I'm not staying up late spiraling down rabbit holes of scientific discoveries and research findings on the world wide web, I like to spend countless hours in the kitchen cooking and baking foods from all around the world, learning new yoga techniques and sequences and competitively playing volleyball. Your super power applied to work? Not sure if I can call it a superpower, but I am able to type fiercely at way above average speeds while completely drowning out all my surroundings when I am in the zone working on a research project. #UAlberta #greenenergy #cleanenergy #renewableeneergy #yeg #geothermal #ualbertageotherm #climatechange #equality #geothermalenergy #sciencerocks #science

#FeatureFriday Meet Spencer Poulette our very talented computer wiz Research Assistant. He has just completed his degree in Geology at UAlberta, and has developed a love of geochemistry! However his passions also are in computers and modelling. He models our research using COMSOL and PetraSim in addition to coding in Python. He also works in our laboratory running experiments on our research. You could call him a "Jack of all Trades"! More on Spencer:... What do you love about geothermal? I love that geothermal energy has the potential to play a key role in the global energy transition, especially for Alberta in transferring our drilling infrastructure to clean energy sources! Plus I'd be lying if I said the idea of mining heat wasn't ridiculously cool. Your fave spots in YEG? Best spot hands-down are all the beautiful trails in the river valley. But for a lovely community, great cafe, and A-grade climbing, Rock Jungle Boulders is a great place to be! Your Favourite Hobbies? I'd consider myself an all-around outdoorsman! I'm into rock climbing, hiking, backpacking, fly fishing, and upland bird hunting. Typical geologist. Your super power applied to work? My ability to be creative in finding solutions to problems #UAlberta #greenenergy #cleanenergy #renewableeneergy #yeg #geothermal #ualbertageotherm #computermodelling #geothermalenergy #sciencerocks #science
