Hi everyone as I’m sure you have heard, the Alberta Provincial Government has extended the current Covid restrictions until January 21. As a result, Campus Rec is starting all their programs two weeks later U of A Judo will now start on Thursday February 4, and we will still end on the original final day, Saturday April 10. If you have already registered through Campus Rec’s website (www.activityreg.ualberta.ca), they will be in touch directly with you. I will send out more updates as I receive them. While this shortens our time slightly, hopefully the restrictions will be eased then and we can start in February. Any day on the mats is a good day! Until then, keep getting some exercise, keep healthy and well we are looking forward to seeing you! Kelly Palmer
Do you ever wonder what some of the techniques in Judo look like? Here are two great resources. IJF/Kodokan the International Judo Federation and the Kodokan together have made videos on both Nage Waza (Throwing techniques) and Katame Waza (Grappling techniques). They’re all here: https://judo.ijf.org/... Kodokan YouTube the Kodokan (the Tokyo headquarters of Judo)’s YouTube channel also has videos of many throws, and is adding to it every week: https://www.youtube.com/cha/UCtF6tu7GuZYkZzht5MIv8UQ/videos
Registration is now open for our January classes, beginner and intermediate/advanced! Go to: www.activityreg.ualberta.ca Click on "Browse Our Programs", then "Martial Arts", and then of course Judo!... See you in January - we are waiting for you!
Hi everyone - as you have likely heard, the Alberta Provincial Government has put in place new restrictions which preclude us from continuing Judo this term. I am of course disappointed, but at the same time looking after everyone's health and safety is the most important choice. We will follow the new guidelines (as we have all along), and hopefully resume on the mat in January. Campus Rec did note we and the instructors in other classes are doing things correctly - not one ...Covid case was reported in all of the Campus Rec classes. I'll post updates on home workouts and Judo related material, and more news on our situation at the University as I hear it. Do what you can at home, and also of course stay in shape. Judo teaches us many things, and some of them are flexibility, reacting well to changes, and keeping going forward. You can still do Judo without being on the mat! There's an old Judo saying "Fall down seven times, stand up eight". Use your spirit to go forward, grow and yes, even in this environment, thrive. We will be back together soon! regards, Kelly
Hi everyone - we are on tonight (Thursday September 24) at the RTF, 6 pm! There was a bit of excitement earlier today due to a flooded bathroom off of the gym, but Campus Rec and Building Services have confirmed the mats are OK, and we are good to go tonight. No change of location, we are at the RTF! See you there!
