Music Graduate Students' Association 31.01.2021

Are you a student interested in the multimedia industries? Concerned about jobs, diversity, and the future of Canadian content in the age of Spotify, Netflix, and YouTube? At the upcoming DM@X conference 2021, which is taking place through Zoom on January 22-23 (12 to 5pm EST, both days), students will have the opportunity to virtually attend panels featuring content creators and industry professionals from the music, TV, and multimedia sectors as they address issues including the streaming of Canadian content, the impact of COVID-19 on Canada’s creative industries, diversity in the creative sectors, and more! Student registration for this event is only $9 (+HST and fees), and you can find the whole DM@X and instructions on how to register atwww.digitalmediaatthecrossroads.com.

Exciting news about our new dean, Dr. Ellie Hisama!

Music Graduate Students' Association 22.01.2021

Hello everyone! Over the past few months, your MGSA exec has been working to set up an online student lounge where members of our community can hang out, get help, and share resources. We're excited to announce that the online lounge has now launched! There are two components: 1. A Quercus page for the Music Graduate Student Lounge, which houses resources, discussion boards, and announcements. This will be more of a standing repository that you can consult anytime for inform...ation and resources on events, mental health and wellness, social media channels at the FoM, MGSA council meetings, etc. 2. A Discord server for more informal chat, with voice and text channels for various topics where you can hang out, talk, ask questions, or do anything else! Current graduate students will soon receive an invitation to join the Quercus page, where you can find a link to the Discord server. We would like to encourage everyone to take a few minutes to check out the Quercus and Discord. Since we can't all be together in person, we hope that this lounge will give you a way to feel connected, and at least partially recreate the feeling of walking through the lobby and seeing all the familiar faces of your friends and colleagues. We envision this as a space that us graduate students will continuously build and improve over time, always adapting to the needs of our community. We hope the online lounge will restore the feeling of unity and strengthen it over the upcoming months! If you have any issues with accessing the Quercus or the Discord, please let us know by emailing [email protected], or messaging us here on Facebook. All the best, Your MGSA Executive

The grad office is launching a new outreach program to foster grad student connection even while we can't meet face-to-face. Info about the event and how to RSVP are here - this is a great chance to meet people and connect with others throughout the department!
