Upcountry Park Outdoor Rink 06.01.2021

Latest signage. I might need a bigger bulletin board.

Upcountry Park Outdoor Rink 26.12.2020

Update on COVID based restrictions: - there is now a maximum of 25 pers allowed at any ice surface - only skating is allowed - no sticks, pucks, balls, or other sporting equipment are allowed on the ice... These will be in effect until the lockdown is lifted and is largely in response to a lot of hockey games breaking out on any established ice surface, and the increased risk of COVID transmission with that kind of activity. There will also be increased city and bylaw presence at all rinks - please be respectful if they ask you to change what you are doing or ask you to leave, they are trying to help and are in the middle. Sorry this has been a rough start to the season, time to focus on skating and hopefully back to hockey in a few weeks.

Update - on Tuesday some people were removed from the ice by Ottawa Bylaw. On following up with the city, I found that city staff had visited the ice and found about 30 people on the ice and an aggressive game of hockey being played by teenagers and young adults. Given the current provincial lockdown prohibits team sports, and that there are no boards on this ice, the players were asked to leave. There was no age/supervision piece to this, though that rule is listed in a post below. Reminder that we need to keep socially distant and I'd ask that if the ice is too busy to do so to please come back at a later time.

COVID info from the city regarding outdoor rinks. Due to the current shutdown and until January 23rd, outdoor skating is still permitted, but there are restrictions and requirements that must be adhered to: 1. Any person who enters or uses the outdoor rink maintains a physical distance of at least two metres from other persons using the outdoor rink (excluding members of the same household). Seasonal Recreation is in the process of updating signage for the rinks to ensure t...his information is prominently displayed for rink users. 2. Team sports, or other sports or games where people may come within two metres of each other, are not practiced or played within the outdoor rink. 3. To help reduce the spread of COVID-19, masks are now mandatory around all public outdoor rinks in Ottawa. Skaters who are not from the same household must keep two metres apart on and off the ice. Masks are not mandatory while skating but are highly recommended. Signs will be posted at City outdoor rinks that state masks are required within 15 metres of the ice and on the ice while not actively skating. There are no indoor facilities here so that helps in this case.
