Evening, everybody. I’ve been trying to get the rink ready to go. The warm weather didn’t help any. However, It’s received a couple of good floods over the last couple days. As long as the water freezes, it should be skateable, barely. It’s gonna be rough until I can get the ice built up. I’ll keep flooding as much as possible over the next week. Hopefully it’ll be at, or close to 100% by New Years Eve. As much as we would love to host a New Years Eve skate for the neighborh...ood kiddos, (complete with hot chocolate, fire pit, and s’mores), unfortunately, due to Covid, we can’t. Something to work towards for next year, maybe? Merry Christmas to all!!
Well, folks. Looks like it’s almost that time of the year again. I put the first layer of water down this evening, with the assistance of Dominic Leupold and his son. Thanks again, guys! Hopefully it’ll get cold, and stay that way. More updates to follow. BTW, we’ve had some pairs of skates, and a few other items donated from a defunct school program. They’re kids sizes, and they’re up for grabs. I’ll provide more info once I sort through everything.
Well folks, things don’t look good for the rink. Due to the warm weather all winter, we weren’t able to build up the ice to the usual thickness. And the few times it’s gotten cold enough to build up more, didn’t last long enough to do more than a few floods. Which was then followed by warm spells where it just melts away. I was just over checking things out, and I’m thinking that it’s done for the year, barring a sudden cold snap, which I doubt is going to happen now. We’ll k...eep an eye on it in case things change, though. A note to the gentleman that had requested a certain size pair of skates for his child from the supply that was donated to us; It’s going to have to be a case of your little one trying them on until he finds a pair that fits. As I said, these skates are all used. And, while they aren’t terrible quality, or overly beat up, they do look used. I had a hard time trying to read the sizes on most of them.
Fresh layer of water. It’s coming along nicely now.
Hi everybody. I just wanted to let y’all know that a very nice lady dropped of two totes full of used boys and girls skates. They came from a school program that got cancelled. If anybody knows of a kid that needs a pair, please let us know. As well as the blades, there’s a couple of toques, one helmet, hockey gloves, and some skate guards.
Here’s an update for everybody we’re trying to get the ice built back up. We’ve flooded several times, but it’s not getting cold enough at night to freeze fully. And, of course it warms back up during the day. But we’ll keep at it. The rink is usable, so, feel free to strap the blades on, and go for a skate. More updates to follow.
I’ll be assembling the nets, and putting them out this week. I’m not sure when, I’ve got some maintenance to do on them first.
Our rink is famous now!
Great day for a skate. Rink looks good.
We were also interviewed by the Medicine Hat News today and the article will be in the paper tomorrow. Check it out! If anyone has copies we’d like them. Thanks.
Rink is looking good. We have been asked if anyone needs skates? It seems the schools aren’t doing the skating program anymore So there’s donated skates available.
Well, as usual the weather just hasn’t cooperated. It’s supposed to start getting colder in a few days, so once it does, we’re gonna absolutely attack the rink with water, and get it finished. Thanks to all for your patience.
Evening everybody. I got home from the hospital yesterday, and we put some more water on the rink. It is usable, but very rough. Use caution if you want to go on it. Somebody has already been on it. I’m planning on spraying some more water this evening, and as much tomorrow as possible. Hopefully it’ll be fully frozen, and smoother by tomorrow night.
Hello all! With Mother Nature not being cooperative and spending the past 2 days at the hospital with Darryl we apologize for not having the rink done yet. It will be done ASAP. Cheers.
Well, we were hoping to be ready by tomorrow night. Unfortunately, Mother Nature didn’t agree. On the bright side, it looks like there’s still some ice left in it. So with the weather turning cold again, I’m gonna try to get as much water on it as possible before New Years Day. I’ll keep you all up to date on the status.
Well, folks, let’s all keep our fingers crossed for the below zero temperatures to continue. I’m hoping to start getting some water on it tomorrow, (assuming I can get all the snow out of it first). As long as Mother Nature cooperates, we should be skating by Christmas! We’re hoping to have everybody on it for a Christmas Eve skate, complete with Hot Chocolate.
Thanks to all for the help and enjoying the rink. It’s sad to watch it melt. See ya next winter! Cheers.
We’ll be getting the rink shovelled as soon as the wind dies down. I just tried to do it, and for every shovelful I threw, the wind dumped two more into the rink.
While shovelling it today, I found somebody’s hockey stick that was left in the skate change area. I’m thinking it belongs to a certain young guy that can’t seem to get enough ice time. Yes, Van, I’m referring to you!! If it’s yours, just let us know. I put it away so nobody steals it.
The rink is shovelled. Much thanks to Corey, Jasmine and Levi. And Levi’s Dad for allowing us to use his snowblower! I’m still having issues with the hoses, so I can’t flood it atm. I need to change a fitting, and I’ve only got 1 of the wrenches I need to do the job, I need another one. A 24 pipe wrench would work, if anybody’s got one I could borrow.
I want to apologize for not getting the rink shovelled yet. I had a bit of an accident, and my arm is now in a sling. I’ll try to get it done this evening. And I’ll get it flooded ASAP.
Monica hard at work shovelling.
Rink is shovelled again. So nice in the sun. Enjoy!
Some hockey shots.
