No in-person programs will take place during that time. Meanwhile, we still offer book loans, computer and printing services. Everything will be alright! From the Upper Miramichi Community Library Board: The board and staff of the Upper Miramichi Community Library are planning a retirement celebration for our fabulous library manager, Gail Ross. Gail has been our first and only library manager. Last year when Gail announced that she would be retiring at the end of October, 2020, we had no idea that we would be planning retirement celebrations for her in the midst of a global pandemic! Current circumstances prohibit us from ...hosting a large 'open house' celebration. However, we wanted to provide an opportunity for members of our community, library patrons, students and teachers (past and present) to send good wishes, notes of appreciation, fond memories, etc. in written notes or short videos which will be made into a video presentation for Gail. These submissions can be sent to [email protected]. We are asking that submissions be sent in by October 15 in order to have them included in the video presentation. We know some patrons would prefer to send in or drop off a card. So during the entire month of October if you would like to to drop off a card to Gail while you are visiting the library to pick up or drop off books, magazines, puzzles, etc., we have a keepsake box at the door for you to do so. Please join with us in making Gail's retirement celebration truly memorable by sending in your submissions to be included in the video presentation or sending in or dropping off a card! ORANGE SHIRT DAY ~ Wednesday, September 30, 2020. * EVERY CHILD MATTERS * Phyllis (Jack) Webstad was a child of the Residential Schools and this is why we wear orange on Orange Shirt Day....... "I went to the Mission for one school year in 1973/1974. I had just turned 6 years old. I lived with my grandmother on the Dog Creek reserve. We never had very much money, but somehow my granny managed to buy me a new outfit to go to the Mission school. I remember going to Robinson’s store and picking out a shiny orange shirt. It had string laced up in front, and was so bright and exciting just like I felt to be going to school! When I got to the Mission, they stripped me, and took away my clothes, including the orange shirt! I never wore it again. I didn’t understand why they wouldn’t give it back to me, it was mine! The color orange has always reminded me of that and how my feelings didn’t matter, how no one cared and how I felt like I was worth nothing. All of us little children were crying and no one cared."
