Upscale Theatre Company students, parents and families, I hope you all had a wonderful thanksgiving together. I wanted to take the time to share what will be happening for UTC during the 2019-2020 season. As most of you know, I suffered a debilitating concussion back in January, and it has been an incredibly long road to recovery since then. This fall I have been able to return to teaching and my regular work days/hours, but I am unfortunately still feeling the effects of my ...post-concussive symptoms. I have finally found a treatment that is helping me slowly improve, but the injury has also exacerbated other health concerns of mine, and brought everything to the forefront. It is with an extremely heavy heart that I must step down as Director of UTC at this time to focus on my continued recovery and health. I am looking to pass the theatre torch to a new creative team, and am hoping to have more information as to what that will look like for a program/show soon. It is our intent to continue to offer the fun, exciting, and welcoming experience that UTC has been known to offer in the past. I would like to take the time to thank each and every one of the beautiful people I have worked with both in cast and crew, over the years as Upscale Theatre, as we grew together to build something amazing. Many of you have been part of our programming since our first dabble into the theatre world in 2014, and have grown along with us over the years. Some of you I had just met and began to work with this past season in Catch Me If You Can. Some of you have come, gone, and returned to us again. Whatever your connection to UTC, it has been a privilege to be able to share in your artistic journeys through such a transformative time in your youth and teenage lives. To watch you grow, hone your skills, deepen your passion, and share your talents is the very reason I have loved every minute. Together we have created some outstanding productions and even more wonderful memories and bonds. From stars, to cast parties, and production predictions, to opening nights and last performances, I will always cherish the time we have spent together. To all of the amazing parents, families, community members and friends who have supported UTC, thank you from the bottom of my heart. Your interest, and unwavering dedication to our programming and company, has allowed us to thrive in so many ways. I hope you continue to support the theatre community in Durham, as it is such an important vessel for learning, growth and self-discovery. Words cannot express how emotional this decision has been, but it is my greatest hope that UTC will continue to blossom and grow as the future unfolds. I hope you continue to share the journey with us, in whatever new path UTC takes. "You'll be in my heart...always" <3
