Welcome back to Wellness Wednesday! Today, let’s chat about one of my favs Coffee! Not so long ago, we were hearing how bad coffee was for our health; that it impaired sleep, raised blood pressure, and even had carcinogenic effects What’s changed? The evidence!... Earlier studies lacked inclusion of other high risk behaviours such as smoking and physical inactivity, which tend to be more common among heavy coffee drinkers. Recent studies have found that coffee drinkers actually may have a reduced risk of cardiovascular disease, type II diabetes, Parkinson’s & Alzheimer’s disease, cirrhosis, gout, as well as uterine & liver cancers. Coffee also appears to improve cognitive function and decrease the risk of depression These impressive benefits of coffee consumption, were often linked to high caffeine content. But a new study suggest that when it comes to specifically brain health, coffee offers more than stimulating effects, and in fact decaf could be just as effective! The study evaluated several components, including caffeine release during the roasting process in three types of coffee beans; caffeinated dark roast, caffeinated light roast and a decaffeinated dark roast. Examiners looked at how certain compounds interacted with amyloid beta and tau, the toxic proteins linked to the terminally disruptive clumps in the brain of Alzheimer’s patients The results? Phenylindanes, compounds that form during the roasting process which provide the characteristic bitterness in BOTH caffeinated and decaf coffee, were found to inhibit both amyloid beta and tau proteins providing a neuro-protective effect. Pretty Cool! @ Toronto, Ontario

| Soft Tissue Therapy | When you think about seeing a chiropractor, you most likely envision the adjustment aka spinal manipulation. Although this is our claim to fame, there is so much more chiropractors can do to relieve specific types of pain or conditions, while also improving how you move and function. One of the tools in the old toolbox is soft tissue therapy! Soft tissues (muscles, ligaments, tendons) can exhibit abnormal tension from poor posture, traumatic injury, o...r sprain/strain from a specific activity. This tension can cause pain, tenderness and/or movement dysfunction. | What Is Soft Tissue Therapy? | A mechanical form of therapy where soft tissue structures are pressed and kneaded, using physical contact with the hand or instrument (ie. Instrument Assisted Soft Tissue Therapy). The principle aim is to relieve pain and inflammation, decrease stiffness, reduce spasm, correct abnormal postures, improve circulation, and increase the affected area’s range of motion. Soft tissue therapy helps increase local blood flow and recovery, helping to supply tissues with oxygen and nutrients, and assist in tissue healing. Book your appointment today! Once I start seeing a Chiropractor, do I need to see one forever? One very common question that we hear a lot. The short answer-> No. The long answer-> If you are experiencing pain and discomfort, or perhaps recovering from an injury, we will help create a game-plan for you! Goals of treatment should include decreasing your pain & discomfort, helping you to self manage your pain, and finally moving towards discharge or in some cases, maintenance care. This depends on a num...ber of factors and varies for every individual (ie. patient preference, complaint and diagnosis, progress, lifestyle, etc) The truth is many patients willingly choose maintenance care to ensure stability of their recovery, and to continue to move & feel their best.
