So remember that time when I said I was going to do monthly blogs while on maternity leave? During a pandemic? With two kids under 3 at home and no childcare? Yeah- that time! So; that didn’t happen, but I’m here now!! My toddler is back at nursery school, and my 8 month old is falling into a more predictable nap schedule, and I’m taking some time to start getting things ready to start seeing all of my wonderful families again in January (albeit in a different way than the wa...y we left off!). But more about that later! For now, check out my latest blog with some tips on how to be a more effective communicator with your little ones while you’re masked. While necessary, hiding our mouths isn’t the easiest for our little or struggling communicators, so hoping some of these tips will help! https://www.uptownspeech.com//6-tips-for-communicating-wit

So I’ve been a little quiet over here lately, and here’s why! We welcomed Little Miss E into our crazy family in February. Since then, things have gotten a little nuts and I’ve essentially been babywearing 24/7, trying to support my 2.5 year old through the transition of becoming a big brother while quarantined, and just generally trying to keep the wheels from falling off the precarious wagon that is my family! These last 2 months have been a serious lesson in gratitude. ... Though the days may sometimes be long- I am so grateful to be home and safe with my little family!! I am also grateful to be starting to get a bit of the headspace back that I need to find my speech and language hat! My goal of monthly blogs has gone by the wayside for the last while BUT I am just about ready to get back at it with the intention of posting monthly about infant language development. Stay tuned for month-by-month installments of what speech and language development looks like in the first year of life, as well as ideas for new parents about how to be spotting and supporting their baby’s emerging skills! (Or just come by for cute baby video spam). Excited to see all of my amazing families again someday soon, and until then, stay safe and healthy!! #slp #slpsofinstagram #slpeeps #kwawesome #kwmoms #kwdads @ Waterloo, Ontario

Check out our latest blog post, written by guest blogger and Music Therapist, Junie Baek. Junie explains what a Music Therapist does, as well as how music can be a powerful tool for motivating and supporting kids with speech-language needs. Junie and our SLP, Allie, will be co-leading the ComMusicate group in Waterloo in January, 2020. This is a fantastic opportunity to combine the power of music with speech-language therapy.
