My clients hired positive reinforcement trainers prior to hiring me and my clients are diligent and knowledgeable. So although the techniques they were using were ineffective in addressing Scarletts anxiety, the basic exercises formed a platform we built off of, advanced to cognitive level, and successfully applied - all in the first session! Otis is shy and nervous so when Emma adopted him in the height of Covid it was difficult to socialize him, heightening his anxiety. Treats and walks were ineffective to help him meet dogs and people. UPWARD Dogology provides clients with the skills to make decisions and changes. Kim felt the need to use a prong collar because Daisy was difficult to walk. In the first session we increased focus and decreased reactivity to the point that she is comfortable enough to switch to a harness. I NEVER preach or enforce rules. Watson was reactive to everything when we began working together. Leash walks improved quickly, but at home proved more challenging. When Aly and Nick moved, they transferred the skills as well! Stella is the sweetest dog but suffers from seperstion anxiety. My clients are doing really well establishing the platform skills and creatively applyjng them. My clients dog, Jack, has extreme separation anxiety when Mary leaves - even the room! Traditional methods, such as crating or using treats, were unsuccessful (they actually heightened the anxiety), so we started in the park to build the platform exercises that will be then transferred to when Mary leaves. Mihas mom is experienced with dogs but the standard techniques (positive reinforcement training and clicker) were unsuccessful with smart Miha. So we advanced to applying cognitive behavioural therapy and are seeing quick results in getting focus and calm manageability. When my client first contacted me over a year ago, Nibs was nervous of new situations and people and would takeoff from the property. Now he sticks around and is happy and comfortable; however, when my client went camping she noticed he was nervous again, so she contacted me and I advised her on how to apply the transferrable skills that we created in her platform to decrease the anxiety In the busy and noisy campground. Within a very short time. Nibs was rolling on the ground comfortable and happy instead of constantly monitoring and laying down,hiding and panting. Luna was nervous of dogs and tended to flee. At our first session in the off leash park after remote sessions to build the skills, she was much more comfy!
