Urban Indigenous Circle 01.09.2020

As we enter into this Season of Creation in the United Church, we reflect on our impacts to Mother Earth and to one another. It is a time of history, a time of remembering, a time of reflection on our place in Creation. This month we will delve into the history of our relationship here on Turtle Island, acknowledging that as we made Treaty together in the hopes of securing a better future, Indigenous people have been forced to struggle, been abused, discriminated against, inc...arcerated and murdered at an alarming rate throughout our partnership with Canada. Still we remain committed to upholding the gift of relationship that our ancestors safeguarded within us. Join us as we observe this season with contemplation, ceremony and dialogue toward a better future. Several events are planned for the upcoming season to introduce this time of reconciliation. Treaty Day (September 22): Treaty 7 Virtual Blanket Exercise Orange Shirt Day (September 30): Remembering Our Traditional Teachings - Intergenerational Trauma, Community and Traditional Ways of Healing Wellness Day (October 3): Indigenous Women's Wellness and Traditional Healing Sisters in Spirit Day (October 4): MMIWG2S Memorial Service

We discuss his journey through ministry, the foundations of the Indian Ecumenical Movement (1971-1985) and the impact this has had on mission of the Indigenous Church today.

During Indigenous Awareness Week it is important to co-create space for our Indigenous Two Spirit family to share and reflect upon the challenges they have faced on Turtle Island. This is a space for remembrance of those lost from the effects of colonization, those forced to conform to colonial heteronormative ways, those forced from their homes because of intolerance, those whose traditions have become forgotten because they were barred from practice or expression, those who... have been killed and whose stories are commemorated in the MMIWG2S+ report "Reclaiming Power and Place." And yet it is also a time of honouring for the residency for those still here and those yet to come. Join us this Saturday June 20 at 1 PM MST for a panel of Two Spirit people from the Treaty 7 area to share in the stories and reflect upon our call to action in support of Two Spirit and Trans Indigenous people. Co-sponsored with Chinook Winds Region and Affirming Connections. Everyone Welcome. For more information contact Tony Snow, Indigenous Lead, Chinook Winds Region.
