In loving memory of Taran "Standing Sunrise" Kootenhayoo. Taran was a shining light as a performer, poet, and activist on the West Coast. He was a member of our Collective, performing in "Silenced" at rEvolver Festival, and a part of our 2019 Transform Cabaret Festival. Taran was such a gifted artist and left an enormous impact on everyone he met. Our deepest condolences go out to his family, friends and community who are all grieving this enormous loss. We are so honoured t...o know and have worked with Taran, and wish him a safe journey to the spirit world. If you can, please donate to the fund set up for his memorial. https://ca.gofundme.com/f/in-memory-of-taran-kootenhayoo

WE THANK YOU for supporting our second annual TRANSFORM Cabaret Festival! As the pandemic hit the world this past spring, not only did we have to change the format of the Festival, but we also had to arrange for our artist circles, both across Canada and internationally, to connect in new ways to create together. We are so proud of the incredibly talented artists' performances and the astounding reception they received near and far. We feel the Festival was successful in its... aim to build relationships between Indigenous and non-Indigenous artists and bring communities together to create lasting social change and groundbreaking performance. Thank you for helping us to DECOLONIZE THE DIGITAL STAGE along with The Cultch. Here are some images shared by The Cultch, which highlight some of our most wonderful moments of the past two weeks. ----- Photo Credits: Bash images filmed by Cameron Anderson; The Darlings III image and Virago Nation image by Emily Cooper Photography; The Candy Show - Camera Operator: Nicole Ng, Director of Photography: Nicholas Bradford-Ewart.

It was important to all of us involved at TRANSFORM Cabaret Festival that we engage with a Protocol Keeper, and we're so happy to have Quelemia Sparrow, from the Musqueam Nation, in this role! You can see Quelemia during the opening of each night's show during the Festival, and you can check out a special message from her right now in a video clip at the bottom of this web page: transformcabaret.com

Today, September 30, is Orange Shirt Day. It’s the day dedicated to remembering and honouring the students and survivors and their families of Canada’s tragic residential school system. We encourage Urban Ink friends and followers to share with us a picture or a story about what they’re doing to honour the day. Wearing an orange shirt? Show us a picture! Listening to a survivor’s story? Tell us about it! Have you seen any past production of ‘Children of God’? What did you take from it? Reading for the first time about this tradition that started in 2013? Share with us your thoughts! #reconciliation #everychildmatters More info about the history and meaning of this day, and ideas how to honour it are at orangeshirtday.org. [This year's beautiful t-shirt design was created by Jackson Eiteneier, a grade 9 student in Calgary.]
