Supreme Court dismisses Indigenous appeal of Trans Mountain pipeline approval The Supreme Court of Canada dismissed an appeal from Squamish Nation, Tsleil-Waututh Nation and Coldwater Indian Band. The dismissal, which as usual came with no explanation for the decision, effectively upholds a decision by the Federal Court of Appeal in February that Ottawa's June 2019 approval of the project was sound. Natural Resources Minister Seamus O'Regan... said the government had worked hard to hear and accommodate concerns the communities have with the project and welcomed the court's decision. Calgary council votes to build the $5.5B Green Line 55 The Green Line, the largest project in Calgary's history, will officially be moving forward. Council voted 14-1 in favour of the revised Stage 1 alignment for the $5.5-billion megaproject Tuesday. Coun. Jeromy Farkas was the sole vote against.... Disney films Togo in Cochrane and Canmore If you are a fan of Disney movies, the company has recently released Togo an untold true story based on the 1925 serum run to Nome, Alaska, also known as the Great Race of Mercy in which dog-sled teams relayed to transport an antitoxin serum over 700 miles to save the Alaskan town from an epidemic. Calgary is Best City in World for Drivers 1 The annual survey is sponsored by the Mister Auto company, based out of Britain. Calgary placed No.1 among 100 cities from around the globe that were tested. This year’s rankings included five Canadian cities as part of its examination of 15 factors that contribute to the average motorist’s daily experience. The study was divided into three categories: infrastructure, safety and costs.... To determine a city’s infrastructure factors, such as the number of cars per capita, traffic congestion, road and public transport quality were examined. Then, air-quality levels were taken into account, as well as accident fatality rates and the various costs involved in being a motorist. Calgary scored highly in each of the 15 categories and topped the polling in the city speed score, which measures how quickly a motorist can get from one area of a city to another.
