Faculty Spotlight Chad graduated with a B.Mus.Ed from the University of Regina in Regina, Saskatchewan, Canada in 2000.Chad taught the Regina Lions Band from 1993-2003. This was an extra-curricular type of organization which provided opportunities such as Concert Band, Jazz Band, Winter Drumline, Winter Color Guard, and Marching Band. Chad is in his20th year of teaching.He is in his 6th year with Regina Catholic Schools and Band Director at LeBoldus Catholic High Sc...hool.Chad was the former Band Director at Winston Knoll High School and surrounding elementary schoolsin Regina for 10 years previous to this. Chad has been a clinician throughout Regina and Saskatchewan for many years.Under his direction, his bands consistently receive superior ratings at festivals such as the Downtowners Optimist Band Festival and the Moose Jaw Kinsman Band Festival.Chad is the Past-President of the Saskatchewan Band Association and he also sits on numerous other committee’s such as the Optimist Band Festival Committee and the Prairielands Jazz Camp committee. Chad is also in his 4th year as being the Director of the Queen City Brass Band. He is in his 2nd year teaching at the University of Regina this year, directing the Wind Ensemble, Concert Band, and Jazz 2.In the past, Chad has taught the Colts, Crossmen, Madison, and Genesis Drum and Bugle Corps.He is currently on staff with the Seattle Cascades Drum and Bugle Corps from Seattle, Washington.

This year our open house event is entirely online and we want high school students to get the opportunity to see what is involved in taking a music degree at the University of Regina. The event will take place on the Monday, Wednesday, and Friday of the week of November 16-20. Faculty Spotlight Violinist Christian Robinson has an extremely active career as a chamber musician and orchestral leader. Having been awarded the prestigious Felix Galimir Award for Chamber Music during his studies at the University of Toronto, his solo and chamber music activities have seen him perform in feature concerts for many of Canada’s premier festivals and concert presenters. He co-founded the JUNO and Félix-nominated Silver Birch String Quartet, one of Canada’s ...most active young string quartets, with concerts throughout Canada and the United States, as well as a residency position at Laurentian University in Sudbury ON. A recipient of numerous grants from the Ontario Arts Council and the Canada Council for the Arts, his chamber music performances with the SBSQ and in other configurations have been frequently broadcast nationally on CBC Radio 2, and Radio-Canada. Christian joined the Regina Symphony Orchestra as Principal 2nd Violin in 2016, and was appointed Concertmaster in 2018. See more

Faculty Spotlight Hyon Suk Kim moved from South Korea to Regina, and joined the Regina Symphony Orchestra as a Principal clarinetist in 2016. Before moving to Canada, she was the principal clarinetist of Daejeon Philharmonic Orchestra in South Korea from 2003-2016. She holds a Licentiate Diploma from McGill University, Certificate from Yale University, and Masters degree from Northwestern University. Her teachers include David Shifrin, Russell Dagon, Daniel Gilbert and Emi...lio Iacurto. She has won first prizes in solo performance in All Japan Music Competition for the Korean School. She has been invited as a soloist and performed concertos with prestigious orchestras including the Kangnam Symphony Orchestra, and the Arco Diabolo Orchestra. Moreover, she has played recitals in US, Japan, and in South Korea. As a chamber music lover, she was a member of Daejeon chamber music society, and is a founder and the leader of the ‘Clarinuts’ Ensemble, a clarinet quintet. In addition to her performance career, she also dedicated her time in South Korea nurturing young musicians. She taught clarinets and chamber music at Mokwon University, Chungnam University, and Chimsil University, as well as holding many master classes. It is with deep sadness we share the news that our dear friend and colleague, Dr. Pauline Minevich passed away in Montreal. Pauline was a gifted musician and inspirational teacher who brought joy to everyone she met. We send our sincerest condolences to the family and especially her husband, Ed and son, Sam.

Faculty Spotlight Richard Raum, Professor Emeritus of the University of Regina, obtained his Bachelor Degree and Performer’s Certificate in Trombone Performance from the Eastman School of Music in 1965, and his Masters in Trombone Permanence from the New England Conservatory of Music in 1967. He played professionally for many years, including with the Regina Symphony Orchestra, and taught for 35 years at the University of Regina before moving to Toronto in 2010. After leaving Regina, he has continued teaching for the University of Regina through online courses in Music 100. Since coming to Toronto, he has continued his performance as principal trombone with the stage band, the Advocats, and the Metropolitan Silver Band.
