Humans of EDS offers stories from our extraordinary students, faculty and staff in the Education Studies Minor program. What’s your story? If you’d like to be... featured, send us a message or contact Dr. Liz Coulson for details. This week’s Human of EDS is Kyuson Lim. This is his story. I completed my major in Mathematics at UTM and then went back to Korea for compulsory military service. The maximum age to enlist is 30. Most people join earlier, since otherwise it can interfere with academics and lifestyle. I went at the age of 24, which was kind of an awkward time, but it worked out. Now that I’m back, I’m working on completing my Stats specialist. I’m also enrolled in EDS. Mathematics and Stats are very theoretical, so I was really interested in EDS courses because I felt I could broaden my knowledge and skills. My inspiration to study EDS came from a childhood friend of mine who is interested in starting up an NGO. I am aware that Canada has amazing opportunities that allow people to explore such options. A friend of mine was able to volunteer in a political campaign as part of his work in EDS and explore career options. I would also recommend Statistics to anyone and suggest they find ways to combine disciplines. Because of my positive experiences, I would like to pursue the Master of Teaching (MT) program offered at OISE. #UTMEducation #LanguageStudies #HumansofEDS UTM Language Studies

Spaces are still available for GER250- Introduction to German Culture! Germany sits on the front lines of many of our society’s most pressing concerns; by studying its culture, both past and present, you will explore how a society can confront its troubled past and emerge with a vibrant multiculturalism. This course explores the land of Poets and Thinkers and instills in its students a nuanced perspective of our world’s most pressing issues: scientific progress; modern mult...iculturalism; rising nationalism and populism; the dangers of propaganda; the threat of racism; recognition and working-through of guilt. You will read from authors and pieces that are powerful enough to become adjectives--Faustian, Freudian, Kafkaesque. How can we, as citizens of UTM and the wider world, learn from and critically apply these lessons in our own communities? Offered in English - Wednesdays 3:00-5:00 p.m. (Online synchronous).
