Hey UTS, don't forget to apply to the UTS Mock Trial Team for the 2020 Spring Season! Mock Trial is an extracurricular program where students simulate a trial based on a fictional case. In the spring, the team participates in the Ontario Bar Association Mock Trial Tournament. This year it will take place on April 20th and 22nd as well as May 5th and 12th. We will also be running an experiential team, for those interested in an introduction to Mock Trial, but not ready/able ...to compete at the OBA tournament. The Experiential tournament takes place in May, after the competitive tournament, but we don't have a date fixed yet. M3-S6s are eligible for the competitive team, and F2-S6s are eligible for experiential. Apply Here: https://forms.gle/q2VshjqKM3tGM1zx9 Applications were sent out last week and will be open until February 9th (11:59 pm). Soon thereafter, we will follow up with you to let you know whether you have been granted an audition :)

Hey UTS! We are currently looking for members to participate in the OBA/OJEN Regional Mock Trial competition. Mock trial is an extracurricular program in which students participate in a simulated trial in order to learn about the legal system and practice public speaking skills in a competitive manner. We are selecting members to fill two teams, a competitive team and an experiential team. We are looking for both lawyers and witnesses that have an interest in law, public spea...king, or acting. The dates for the competitive tournament are April 16th & 23rd (preliminary rounds), finals TBD, and the dates for the experiential tournament are also TBD. Applications are open to current M3s-S6s! They are due February 5th (11:59 pm) If you have any questions feel free to contact one of the Mock Trial Exec members. Apply Here: https://goo.gl/forms/fNw50EiSBLGLVQsk1
Congratulations to our Experiential OBA/OJEN Mock Trial Team! On Friday, May 10, they competed at the Superior Court of Justice. Their case was R. v. Jay Carter (Criminal Harassment and Mischief to Property). Composed of primarily F2 and M3 students, the experiential team received 3 Best Lawyer awards. Good work everyone :) Make sure to keep your eyes peeled for next year's Mock Trial applications coming out soon!

THIS COULD BE YOU!!! It's your last chance to apply for UTS's Empire Mock Trial 2018 team, going to NYC for the World Championships this November!! Fill out this application by tomorrow! https://goo.gl/forms/lhO7n5s9mKd74a0R2
Don't forget to apply for Empire Mock Trial 2018 this weekend! The application shouldn't take very long and is due on Monday, May 7th. Empire is an international Mock Trial organization that runs tournaments, including the world championships. UTS is sending a team to compete for the third time at the World Championships in NYC from November 16 19, 2018. We are currently looking for witnesses and lawyers who are passionate about law, acting, and public speaking. The tourn...ament is fun and engaging, but note that it is a significant time commitment and requires extensive preparation, particularly towards the end of October and into November. The application (linked below) is quite short to complete, and quality applicants will be notified for a brief interview/audition (the applicant will be provided materials and instructions to prepare for a cross-examination, either as a lawyer or a witness). Applications are open to current M3s-S5s. Apply Here: https://goo.gl/forms/lhO7n5s9mKd74a0R2 Due: Monday, May 7th We're looking forward to reading your applications! Feel free to contact any of the execs if you have any questions!

Hello, Everyone. Here they are, applications for the 2016 UTS Empire Mock Trial World Championship team. https://docs.google.com//1NZfRTL9UYeHNaBCmuV0jpF47cy/edit These applications are due by Friday, May 27 at Midnight. ... When deciding whether to apply please keep in mind these factors. First: this is an expensive trip, it could be $1,200 or more. If you receive a bursary from the school they will cover the same percentage of the trip as they cover your tuition. Ie 20% bursary means 20% off the trip. Secondly, this is a very large time commitment. We expect at least 3 hours per week worth of work either at home or meetings, and towards the tournament dates November 10-14 it get very, very busy, and you'll have to be able to drop everything to help the team. We need a team of 13 and will need at least 7 new members for our team. If you have any question do not hesitate to contact me. Please submit your application to once you're done. Good luck!
This is a copy of the email sent to UTS students. Hello UTS, As the President of UTS Mock Trial, I want to give everyone a little bit of information about UTS Mock Trial and what events we have coming up.... Currently, we are getting ready to prepare our World Championships Team. This will be a team of 13 individuals with 7 lawyers and 6 witnesses, who will most likely be made of M4s-S6s (next year) however sometimes M3s may be able to join. (Unfortunately since this is an external tournament F1s and F2s can't participate, but are always encouraged to watch our meetings). Usually, a Mock Trial team is comprised of UTS students of many different backgrounds, be that: Debate, DECA, Show and many other activities. How a Mock Trial experience works is, we gather our team and assign roles. These roles are based on a case we are given. In this case, witness statements and exhibits will be given. Based on these materials we craft our witnesses' personas and our lawyer's examinations and statements. Then in the competition, we run through all the stages as you would in a real trial (including a new pre-trial component). The rounds are scored on if you team wins or loses the round and how many points your team accumulates. If Mock Trial sounds like something you are interested in then keep checking UTS students because we will be posting applications later this week. These applications will be for the World Championships Team. The Tournament takes place November 10-14, 2016 in New York City. More information on specific details, like, costs, time commitment, the number of available spots, etc will be sent with the applications. In the meantime if you have any questions about what Mock Trial is, or if you want to know if your skills can be applied to Mock Trial, please feel free to ask me. I'll be happy to help. -- Go Gators! Freedom is only understood by those without it. Ben Jones
